I got a €20k+€10k payout ($31k in freedom units) though so it's all good. Gonna take my time and try to get the amount of epileptic seizures under control first. Or at least not as frequent. Third medication made the after-affects waaay less bad but the frequency of seizures spiked the more I worked. I can't be out here interviewing for jobs and then be forced to call in sick half the time due to epileptic seizures. Gotta find the right medication first. My now former employer was like a utopia all around. Until that venture capital firm came around a while ago, bought the company and now decided to slash the QA department. That includes my now former position as Software Test Engineer.
I have a 50/50 medical split agreement so my employer pays my wages for 20h/week, then health insurance pays me my gross wages untaxed for the other 50%.
So basically I get a big part of that €20k untaxed. The remaining €10k is paying out the company shares I hold.

And like you said I have other smaller forms of income regardless.
