thanks man before I was using a point and shoot Just recently stepped up to a nikon d3100 and copped the 50mm f1.8/d Turns out that was the wrong lens if I wanted auto focus so I'm still getting used to the manual focus

^true. The more expensive 50mm 1.4 had the focus motor and will autofocus on your camera. Also, look into the 35mm 1.8 as well. Good shot!
