Kendrick is also a rappers rapper... however casual listeners like to recite lyrics along with the rapper. Kendrick doesnt necessarily make that very easy to do or fun a lot of the time. His quote-ables aint really quote-ables to a lot of ppl either
i personally dont have problems with his style really but if the discussion is about why ppl are turned off i think that would be more of a factor than the beat selection.

Hindsight. there are always ways to make a song better, especially live. Most times than not, an artists live performance will be better than the original song. He made girlies that aren't backpack rappers or even mess with "rap" all that much quote his songs, and he a lyricist, wasn't even on "love when you give me head, hate when you give me headaches".
He just blesses us fans with intense rhymes sometimes, but he did a great job already of capturing the casual rap fan.

Kendrick would 100% be appreciated more if he rapped over more accessible beats. The non-critic, non-Kendrick fan reaction to TPAB was very mixed. Very mixed. Production was a huge part of that.
He's not saying he should rap over trap beats. It's pretty obvious that he's more worried about making great music with a message vs. popularity just by the choices he makes sonically.
