This story is so random and wild. He was supposed to be his BFF, say it ain’t so

Yeah the ESPN story made it seem like Ohtani was aware of his gambling problem and was willing to pay the debts. Then the bookie was being investigated by the Feds and Ohtani’s attorneys got spooked that it would look like he was doing a Pete Rose.If you read the story it's clear that Shohei's lawyers told Ippei to take the fall himself on this one, though. It seems Shohei was good with covering Ippei's debts until he was told he had to cut ties.
Moral of this story, kids: Don't gamble what you can't afford

Folks are already making the assumption Ippei is taking the fall that Ohtani is a degenerate
ESPN story says Ohtani didn’t want to give Ippei directly the money because he was worried he would be gamble it away. Which is believable. Degenerate gamblers will definitely do that thinking this final bet will end the losing streak.if the first story is legit though then why not just give the money to Ippei and have him pay off the bookie. a lot cleaner than what happened. makes me believe the embezzling.

Maybe I’m just bias but Ohtani does not look like or come off as someone who is addicted to gambling. Ippei DEFINITELY does though He grew up in SGV. There are underground Asian casinos everywhere there
No one really knows Shohei, but this doesn’t fit how he moves at all. He’s not money-motivated, only cares about winning, and has been known to be the most boring guy outside of baseball.sounds like they had to backtrack to state that Shohei and his bank account wasn't directly connected to the illegal bookie and degenerate Ippei takes the fall for his own eff up.

Wow didn’t know this about yall I agree Ohtani should have shot a third party some bread to make the payment.ahh good call by him. but should've used a third party then, I'm sure they know some clean white folks lol
and as an Asian man I can confirm that most of us are degenerate gamblers (myself included)

Mans differed over $600M of income until a decade from now, why would he gamble for breadcrumbs? He seems like the naive type to really pay off his boy’s gambling debt without hesitation. Him transferring the money directly makes me give him the benefit of doubt, sneaky folks wouldn’t want that paper trail.
