Well we all know they arent going to do that, what we have now is the lesser of two evils. Player safety has to be a primary concern while staying within the rules of the game. You cant logically ban an alley opp its a legal pass, so you do what you can to make sure the receiver of said pass is in as little danger as possible.

Right, but you want to ban the defenders right to go up for the ball? I dont want to see anybody get hurt either, but why even come out to play if theres certain plays that you're not even allowed to play defense on? If they throw oops every time down the floor, then what?

Theres no way any NBA team could throw a catchable alley opp on every play, theres not enough open space in a halfcourt set for it, theyre not even common on fast break plays. Too many things have to go right for an alley oop to where we'd see them every play.
