New Orleans Hornets guard Eric Gordon out indefinitely with recurring knee problems

New Orleans Hornets shooting guard Eric Gordon will be out indefinitely, Coach Monty Williams said Wednesday morning, though neither Williams nor Gordon could shed any light on the severity of the right knee problem that kept the team's max money player sidelined through the entirety of training camp.

Gordon was instructed by a member of the Hornets' media relations staff not to speak with reporters and was escorted to the locker room after shootaround by the team's security chief.

"He's going to be out," Williams said. "The way I understand it, he's going to be out indefinitely until we get some more clarity on what's going on so I don't have to answer these questions every day and give you guys the update. We'll just go from there."

Rookie Austin Rivers will start Wednesday night against the San Antonio Spurs at the two-guard spot.

Hornets general manager Dell Demps said Wednesday morning, as Gordon walked out of the Arena accompanied by a member of the communications staff, that Gordon would not speak.

"He's processing some information right now and he doesn't have any comment," Demps said, without discussing just what that information was. "We don't have any comment right now. We're processing information and we will, at the appropriate time, give a statement."

Demps said there is no timetable for releasing additional information.

"I don't anticipate it to be a long time, like an extended period of time," Demps said.

Demps would not say if Gordon has undergone any additional diagnostic procedures on the knee in recent days.

"He's been going through his rehab, and he's doing a good job of it," Demps said. "We're still processing all the information. At the appropriate time we'll release a statement."

It's unclear when Gordon will comment.

Gordon began full-scale contact workouts with the Hornets on Sunday, after mostly walk-through participation up to that point.

On Tuesday, he said "there are no guarantees" he'd play against the Spurs and he was still experiencing pain in the right knee, which was cleaned out arthroscopically on Feb. 14. Gordon played in only nine games in last year's lockout-shortened season.

To Gordon's expressed chagrin, the Hornets matched a four-year, $58 million max-money offer Gordon, then a restricted free agent, received this summer from the Phoenix Suns and have expressed a desire to make him the foundation of the team's rebuilding effort.

Williams was uncertain what Gordon's current symptoms were, whether there was swelling in addition to the pain Gordon said he was having Tuesday.

"He probably does feel pain; that would be the only reason why a guy can't play," Williams said. "For me to try to read an MRI ... I'll find out more as we go forward. I try to not get into all that because that would just make me upset."

Williams said on Monday he would check with team physician Scott Montgomery to ascertain if playing Gordon would cause additional damage.

"I've checked with Doc," Williams said, "but for him to explain to me what's going on with his body and then have Eric feel a certain way doesn't matter. You know what I'm saying? If Doc says one thing and the guy is feeling another, then you have to . . . what am I supposed to say?

"I'm sure it's got to be medical. A guy just can't not play. It's got to be medical. At this point of the year, everybody is excited to play. I'm sure it's medical."

Williams said his loss hurts.

"It's more than a blow," Williams said. "It is what it is. At the same time, you guys have been with me here through my coaching tenure and it's always been like this. I'm well-prepared for these kinds of experiences. It's one of those situations that, talking about it and complaining about it isn't going to help it. It's an unfortunate situation. I'll give you guys information as I get it."

Williams said he was unsure what the next course of action was regarding further rehabilitation of the injury.

"I'm not going to do this every game," Williams said. "Like I told you: he's not playing. He's out indefinitely. I'm not going to go down the script of like, 'OK, this is what we're going to do.' It doesn't matter. For me, he's not playing. And it's just one of those situations that that's all we have. And we have to move forward from there."

When Gordon agreed to the Suns' offer sheet in July, he said his "heart was in Phoenix."

Later, at the U.S. Olympic Basketball team trials in Las Vegas, Gordon said he would be disappointed if the Hornets matched the offer.

Monty trying to hold back from saying something :nerd:

Behind the scenes with Lionel Hollins:

And now he's late. During Hollins's drill, Haddadi finishes after all of his teammates and the allotted 10 seconds.

"I'm tired of your ********, Hamed," Hollins says. "I'm tired of your laziness. Come on. You can be mad at me all you want, but I don't give a ****. Be mad at me, but do what you're supposed to do."

Hollins wants to see how Jerryd Bayless, a new acquisition, fits as a shooting guard with the first team, swapping him for Allen. The results are immediate — Allen isn't happy. He complains about injuring his toe while going too hard on a drill, although he's really just sore about playing with the reserves. Hollins recognizes the damage and quickly aborts the experiment, placing Allen back on the first team. Allen's toe miraculously improves. The practice continues. Just another day in another long season.

"Timeout," Hollins says. "**** this ****. Let's watch this film and get ready for the practice. I'm going to play who's going to play."

"I don't know why you are complaining, Josh," Hollins says. "You guys have shot 30 free throws."6

"It was a good defensive play," Smith replies. "He forced it. You were a good defensive player, weren't you?"

"Yeah, but you guys have already shot 30 free throws," Hollins says.

"I haven't shot one," Smith says.

"That's because you're shooting jumpers," Hollins needles back.

I have a feeling I'm super late..... but have any of yall read 'Don't Put Me In Coach'?

Its a fun story, written almost in a blog format, about some bench warmer who only scored 9 points in his 4 year career at Ohio State and was buds with Greg Oden, Conley, Cook and hates Evan Turner's guts. Pretty funny so far, solid download

When they got Nash, I said that Mike Brown would have Steve standing in a corner watching Kobe dribble, I had no idea that he would be watching Metta World Peace dribble. :smh: :x

It's pretty awesome, I have to say, Mike Brown finally found a way to slow down Steve Nash.

My man had 7 footers out past the free throw line with the ball. Ron Artest dribbling, Ron catchin lobs in the paint, Steve runnin weaves by the baseline for 14 seconds, it was fantastic.

Princeton offense. I ain't never seen the Sac Kings run no **** like that.

One solid thing I did see, lot of baskets down low, so maybe, just maybe, if they do for some stupid reason stick with Brown, they'll learn the offense and crispen it out, but when they get down, **** the offense and run the plays that fit the strengths of 4 hall of famers. Stop over thinking ****.

Once that game started to get away from them, they shoulda gone to their strengths and forgot the offense for a quarter. Dallas adjusted at halftime, we.....we.....well we came out from the lockerrom after halftime. :x

Bruh maybe I'm nuts but I have faith in this offense. they were at their best when they were executing plays correctly and they were straight garbage whenever they tried to wing it. some of their best sequences were when they had 7 footers dribbling from the free throw line. Dwight was rusty as hell, Pau looked rusty even tho he's been playing all year and Nash's shot has been off since preseason. The Mavs looked smooth in the second half because they were basically running the same plays the Lakers did in the first quarter. Mavs played good D denying Nash on pick n rolls and getting all 5 guys back whenever Nash did try to push it. they just looked flat but they'll get it together
