: I wish David Stern had been this concerned about the fan experience during the lockout.

Boom.

Roasted

Don't buy this crap for a second. Only reason he mad is TNT is pissed they have even worse ratings they a,ready would have against a big football game

NBA is a business. The regular season is 82 games to entertain people across the country.  We don't need 82 games to know whos best and how to rank the playoff teams but we have 82 games.  If you are a pro you are expected to play 82 games if you aren't injured.

I understand Pops reasons but taking out 5 key players is OD and a slippery slope because things have to be regulated.  You can't have the Bobcats doing this every 5 games to get the #1 pick.  Pop is a winner but he doesn't get more "rights" than the Wizards coach Wittman.  Everything has to be even.  Stern will step in and I don't blame him.

Bottomline is Pop took it too far and embarrassed the league tonight.  He could've did this on a game that wasn't on National TV.  But the timing makes this even worse.

The league embarrasses itself all the time though. This anger is purely selfish. It Nothing to do with integrity or fans

Dumb post.

Game at half time 47-45 Heat.

Still a great game of basketball being played.

Plus I havent seen NT talk about the SPURS in a min. This is bringing more attention to the game then it would have had the big 3 play.

On the eve of the opening of the National Basketball Association playoffs, Commissioner David Stern yesterday fined the Los Angeles Lakers $25,000 because Coach Pat Riley failed to play two healthy starters Sunday night in Portland in the Lakers' final game of the season.

Magic Johnson and James Worthy suited up for the game and participated in pregame warm-ups, but did not play in the game, which the Lakers lost, 130-88, to the Trail Blazers. The defeat was the worst in Laker history, but the outcome had no effect on playoff matchups.

Riley also held out the veteran center Mychal Thompson, who is also a starter but had been out earlier this month because of a knee injury. Riley said after the game that he rested the three because he didn't want to risk injury to significant players before the playoffs.

Jerry Buss, the Lakers' owner, apologized yesterday to Trail Blazer fans and added in a statement that ''our fans would have been disappointed if the same thing happened here.''

Rod Thorn, the league's vice president for operations, said the N.B.A. had also fined the Lakers in 1985 when Riley held Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar out of the team's regular-season finale.

Dead @ Stern fining Pop & the spurs for sending Tony, Manu, & Timmy home "I Did Not Approve Of That"

Now he's regulating how Coaches coach gonna be one hell of a victory lap for him :lol

why is $tern fining the spurs organization? only people affected by it are the bettors/vegas and one's buying tix 8o
popp trolling them, that's what happens when you play 4gms/5nights

Maybe stern's refs had money on the game and are mad now

And if the spurs win he's gonna look even dumber

Btw people were talking about how easy Miami's scheduale seemed right when it came out. So how about he concentrates in that and this won't happen. If this was the spurs 1st game in a few days he wouldn't have rested them

This just is another symptom of stern making his league dependent on "stars"

Is Matt Bonnet Canadian yet? If so the spurs don't have one American on the floor right now :lol

Damn, Wade couldn't even finish three feet from the basket with good position. This is kind of sad.

You forgot the most important one: advertisers. Those TNT Thursday slots are very valuable. Yeah, Pop does this from time to time, but he doesn't do it on national TV. This is different.
