V2 used to be the 990 I was least interested in but something switched in my mind over this year and they might be my favorites. Narrowly beating out the V3.
Same. Still prefer the V3. But Teddy has helped me change my mind on the V2 as well

To be fair, NB 2001s were $200 over 20 years ago. Their top-of-the-line MIUSA runners have been expensive for a very long time.
That's why alot of this "new balance is having it's moment" or "new balance is hot now" is weird to me. When I was younger and could only afford entry level NBs like 574s and 580s and 850s, the MiUSA/UK NBs were aspirational to me. Back then paying $180 and above for kicks was not the norm and at that price I could either get multiple pairs off the hash wall with money left over or go after Nike/Jordan heat. I always envisioned growing an NB collection for myself once I got older and more established.

I think more than just the aesthetics matching up with the times, I also think a lot of it is more buyers being used to spending $200+ for sneakers and with sub par materials. NB isn't just on trend, it's refreshing because you are actually getting what you pay for.

Yup. My dad always liked to run, so I ended up liking New Balance MIUSAs as a kid. Got my first pair of MIUSAs, 999s, in high school on clearance without a box and a width too big at Sports Authority.

I was then fascinated by the 2001s and that they were more expensive than Jordans. Loved the look and quality. Got a pair at Finish Line for 160 when they went on sale for 20% off. After that, I got the 2002s which I think were 250 retail? Even on sale, which most eventually went on, there were so expensive, and I had to save up for them.

Then, I got the 2040s which were 275 retail! 275!

I've posted the 2002s and 2040s here in the past.

Not to mention Horween leather NB variations being 350+ retail a decade ago, although they eventually went on sale, of course.
