***OFFICIAL NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS SEASON THREAD*** (13-4) - Patriots @ Broncos - Sun 3:05PM EST - Bra

heeey.... hear me out here broski.  i think you're right if this was revis of old, the mercenary who demands to be paid top dollar then yes definitely.

i mean this is the pats and hoody we're talking about. revis most likely aint gonna have his cake and eat it. LOL. who does he think he is? he's bigger than the team? ***** please. how could he sing that tune after being on a team that preaches T-E-A-M.  sure he probably would have some kind of leverage but ultimately we have rest of the season to play out and see where things stand. i hope we will be able to come to a mutual agreement that works out for everybody, win-win. I think if darrelle wants to stay, that's what he will have to do. BB won't and never will put a player above the team, you know that DSK.

That's my two cents and damn it if im not right

And come on, tommy's gonna play out his contract. the guy never says anything bad about anyone...ever whether it's contract related (of course he never had to) or on field performance on other players/etc...at worst he'll make a underneath, underhanded comment that flies under the radar
nerd.gif
. guy is media saavy.  lastly, best believe if he wants it reworked and they will work it out behind closed doors and retire a patriot

But i dont think it'll get reworked/reconstructed. Because thomas edward patrick brady jr. embodies what a team is all about and a truest patriot ever. *sheds a tear*

*hops off TB12 nuts*

LOL

Pats should give Revis 5 years at 12-13+ million per with most of the money guaranteed

No matter what, you have to give him a better deal than Talib got.

Pats can always fall back on the option of taking the 20M$ cap hit next year

As already mentioned, so much depends on what happens this year

I need Revis here, though . No matter what :lol

keep Revis at whatever it takes. cut Mayo and give Brady that money. problem solved...sort of. easier said than done, i'm sure :lol

but it was brought up today that clearly Mayo isn't as big a need with the emergence/development of Collins and Hightower. at least not at his current salary (3rd or 4th highest on the team). so i'm thinking you get him to take a pay cut or release him...give Brady the money. but like i said, much easier said than done :lol

for those interested in some Pats v Packers talk from today's F&M w/ Bedard:

Greg A. Bedard ‏@GregABedard 16s16 seconds ago
The audio from my weekly @FelgerAndMazz appearance can be found here. http://boston.cbslocal.com/audio/felger-massarotti/ … A lot of #Packers #Patriots talk.

not a ton of mind-blowing stuff today. there was a TON of Revis praise...rightfully so. and as far as Bedard's thoughts on stopping the Packer offense:

Revis on Cobb
Browner/McCourty on Nelson
tempt them to use Lacy a bunch

that brand name dont work too well, unless you are Tom Brady. lol

Revis getting up there. im a tad more impressed with browner since he came back, but its too earlyish. unless this team utter dominates. that run game is good tho.

few things ive noticed about the defense and secondary now

#1 Hasselbeck brouhght this up and its brilliant . the past two weeks , Belichick has been our #2 CB Browner on the opposing teams #1 with safety help and putting our #1 CB Revis on the other teams #2 . the thought process being that with the new rules , damn near no one can consistently cover a #1 with 1 on 1 , but revis is strong enough to shut down a #2 on his own . its worked great and i think it's what we'll see against Green Bay

#2 we all know that Belichick is probably the best coach when it comes to game planning, scheming against his opponent, and situational football coaching . what is making this team so great right now is that he finally has all the pieces and the right balance of players to efficiently utilize ANY game plan and scheme that he wants . the issue in years past is that there have been some teams where the schemes he has tried to implement werent necessarily congruent with players we had . thats why when you look at the Blount pick up , or the fact we are carrying 9 different DBs (5 corners and 4 safeties) , 5 running backs , 5 WRs to me shows this coaching staffs plan to be as flexible as possible . wont surprise me at all if one of these upcoming games we see Dobson active with several targets after not playing for the past month

and Revis is going to get his bread , TRUST me on that

Bedard today said Collins is playing MLB at a Pro Bowl/All Pro level right now. that's lofty praise. even if exaggerated, says a TON about how Collins has stepped up to fill the void left by Mayo.
Hightower*, not Collins
laugh.gif

And he's right, I mentioned it in here not too long ago. Hightower isn't getting a lot of praise, but he's been excellent this year in multiple roles. He was one of my question marks before the season and has managed to make that jump we were all hoping for.

Yes, Revis is bigger than the team. That's why he'll get paid like it when the time comes from Bob Kraft or someone else.

Without him...the foundation crumbles. It's really that simple. Brady or Revis go down and it's a wrap for this season. You can make the case for Gronk too, even though I'd say the other two hold the fort before him.

We know Belichick won't put any player above the team and that won't change now. However, the approach with someone special like Revis will be much different than your typical handling of NFL players. I think management is smart enough to realize this...I just hope ego doesn't interfere with what should get done.

Last thing about Darrelle...he always sets the market for his position. Did it with the Jets, did it with the Bucs, and it won't be any different in 2015 after Sherman/Peterson/Haden received their extensions and surpassed his AAV this year.

The price will start at $14M per year.

defense aint about any one player, revis is not nat sherman. its a team effort, yall.should know that. revis.doing whay he doing, but its not like he is doing anything that extraordinary.

this franchise has no room for ego, cept maybe Tom, but so far, those guys have proven and validated themselves. if they win the SB, then ya, totally difft story.

haha yes...hightower. not sure why i wrote collins :lol

The AFC personnel man called it for the Packers, 24-21.

"Even with LeGarrette Blount, I still think Green Bay will run the ball just a little bit better," said the scout. "(Eddie) Lacy is still healthy, right?

"And I think Green Bay has a little better chance to put more pressure on New England than New England does on Green Bay."

A personnel director for an NFC club also gave the nod to Green Bay, 28-24.

"Green Bay has more explosive big-play guys on offense," the scout said. "Belichick is very good at taking away what you do best and your best players, but that will be more difficult based on the way McCarthy and Rodgers deploy their weapons.

"Rodgers is a much more cerebral quarterback than (Matthew) Stafford (Lions quarterback). He'll find options. And New England has to worry about Eddie Lacy not only as a ball carrier but how Green Bay uses him on screens to offset pass rush."

On Sunday, the Patriots slaughtered Stafford and visiting Detroit, 34-9.

One position where it's a mismatch is tight end, where the Patriots have rampaging Rob Gronkowski.

"Green Bay has a player to use against 'Gronk' in certain situations that other teams don't," the NFC man said. "(Julius) Peppers is just as big and even more athletic, and I can see (Dom) Capers using him in crucial situations that will take away (Tom) Brady's security blanket."
Interesting part to me is that whoever this "NFC club Personnel Director" is, expects Peppers to get matched up on Gronk.

Big? Yea.

Athletic? Of course.

Can cover Gronk Lesnar? Dudes played rush DE his whole career until 2014. Lofty ambitions.

Honestly though its worth a shot... Who else gonna cover him?
roll.gif

Clay is new to MLB, although he can play any LB position and excel at it. But even at 6'3 250ish, hes small compared to Gronk.

Hawk would be absolute food for Gronk.

The rest of the MLB's are trash which is why Clay is playing there in the first place.

Burnett and Clinton Dix would get bodied by Gronk.

Watch it ain't eem gonna matter though, Tim Wright finna have 3 TDs.

Good for him.

One of the leaders on this team and on his way to another Pro Bowl selection.

Nice to see the Pats starting early on 2015 decisions and locking up one of their guys.

Devin McCourty is up next.

Who do the Pats keep from the RB corp? Aren't all of them FA next year except Blount now?

Impossible to know for sure, but its a good problem to have. They have a lot of options

I want Shane to re-sign, obviously. I don't like him running between the tackles but he's a dynamic player. He keeps guys guessing and has great hands

I'd be cool with Jonas, Blount, and Vereen going into next year

I feel bad for Ridley, man . He's such an explosive player and to get injured in a contract year is just :{

He essentially lost millions of dollars that he could have made on the FA market if he had a breakout year . I'm sure he'll be okay, but it probably wont be in New England :(

yeah i dunno about Ridley coming back. i love the way he runs and would want him here. but i feel like some team will pay him more than we're willing to pay him.

I hope he does well somewhere else in terms of both yardage and salary. Ridley is tough as nails

Now that we have Blount on a vet minimum + incentives, theres no way Bill is going to give Ridley the money he wants/needs/deserves.

Chandler Jones appeared at today's walkthrough.

don't think he plays. probably just meant to put some doubt into the back of GB's mind as far as Chandler being out

Ridley is pretty much a goner, unless he takes a similar deal to Blount. Vet min + incentives. And even that might not get it done since the backfield is so crowded.

I'd like to keep Vereen, but he might be a casualty of all the other priorities this team needs to handle in the offseason. They already have his replacement in the wings.

I expect to see James White, Jonas Gray, Blount +
The New England Patriots on Monday claimed rookie running back Tyler Gaffney off waivers after the Carolina Panthers tried to sneak their sixth-round pick through waivers and onto injured reserve.

Gaffney suffered a knee injury over the weekend that will require surgery. He'll miss the season, but when he returns, he'll wear New England's red, white and blue.

It's reminiscent of Belichick claiming injured Giants tight end Jake Ballard off waivers in 2012 after New York also attempted to whisk the veteran by for a trip to IR.
Going into next year and someone gets dropped after the pre-season from the Blount/Gray/Gaffney trio.

I also think that Ridley might be gone, really sucks that he got hurt in a contract year. You gotta feel for him :{. I'm sure there will be teams that would be more than willing to pay him what he wants.

I just hope Vereen gets resigned,he's basically the contemporary reincarnation of Kevin Faulk in the way he can open up the passing game.

Along with the other big names (D-Mac,Revis), another key but undervalued player that could also head to free agency is Gostkowski. The guy has got to be up there as one of, if not the most consistent and reliable kicker in the league, hoping to see him continue on with the team.

Good points on Gaffney and Gostkowski

If Vereen really isnt here next year - I'll be disappointed and one of the other 31 teams will be getting an excellent player

We need Gostowski back. Dude is absolutely money from anything

DE Chandler Jones (hip) is present at #patriots Wed walkthrough. His first appearance since injury vs Jets-Erik Scalavino. I wish they would sit him to the playoffs
