OFFICIAL NFL OFFSZN THREAD 2023-24: Bill WILDIN

Still don't understand the Giant's reasoning for declining Danny's 5th year option. They could've had him on a reasonable 1-yr prove it deal this season. At worst he flames out and you cut bait. At best you only paid 22mil to make sure he was the guy before signing him to a new deal.

Giants keep treating him like he's a Manning. Tryna convince themselves he's something he's not. He fits the "the look" they want.

The Giants drafted Daniel Jones because of his athleticism

So why not tailor the offense around that because I don’t know if he has the arm talent to win playoff games

They drafted him because of David Cutcliffe. He said he was another Manning and could handle NY like Eli did. Gettleman liked his size and arm, he didn’t run much in college.

That's what Daboll did last year but w/o Saquon it won't work. With Saquon it's a struggle because he's the only weapon.

So w/o him

At what point does Cincy consider shutting Burrow down for the near term?

They should've taken their time with not bringing him back until he was 100% but for whatever reasons, down to him or internal team pressure, they didn't and are suffering the consequences of it which they can't change now.

What they can change is how they handle the situation moving forward.

Do you wait until you're officially out of playoff contention and risk potential long term damage and serious consequences with his health or do you take a punt on the season early enough to avoid that and work towards getting him back to 100% much sooner?

I’m not going to @ anybody…

But a few cats drank that Danny dimes kool aid..

I read they would finish above Dallas this year in this very thread…

Defenses are forcing him to step up in the pocket and not letting him roll out. He’s not Lamar or Vick. He’s hard to tackle and has good speed for his size but he’s not a mobile QB.

Teams have figured their simple offense out and luck has ran out. They didn’t dominate games last year. They squeaked by at the end and got lucky forcing turnovers or opponents defenses dropping INTs.

I’m scared he gonna tear an Achilles since he has a bad calf. I wouldn’t let him on the field until the calf has fully healed.

The point is there were multiple options available to the Giants to hedge. You bring in Daboll to fix your first round QB but aren't willing to give it more than a year? If Jones didn't have a good Year 4 then bring in some QB competition for Year 5. Or at least use the franchise tag and make Jones prove it again. A relatively "good" season didn't warrant a full on extension.

It's weird cuz when he first got hurt the initial reports was people assumed he would miss 2-3 weeks. Then after that extendo we barely heard about his injury.

He ran quite a bit in college and leading up to the draft he was considered a dual threat quarterback

Thats why you call designed runs so the blocking is set up for him

Daniel Jones has 64 turnovers and 62 passing TDs in his career.

Giants and Jets are the only teams this season that haven’t taken an offensive snap with a lead.

Troy said last night that Daboll told him he has to get Daniel fired up for games, he can’t do it on his own.

We’ve also heard Troy, Young and other HOF QBs say a good QB can make a bad OL better but a bad QB can make a bad OL awful.

He hurt his calf in camp which derailed his offseason prep work so he came into the season still hurt and coming off almost no offseason.

He reaggrevated it a few weeks back but they still opted to start him and it's showed in his inability to do about anything he's capable of doing when healthy.

He's not gonna recover properly if they don't sit him for some time and they're only opening him up to get worse while not even getting the benefit of being a competitive squad while he plays hurt.

Might be time to sacrifice their short term prospects to make sure their franchise guy doesn't get broken long term.
