It was 1 person who had the custom made though. I'd agree with you if Nike was releasing it similar to their BHM, WTK, or Christmas releases, but this is a one time custom that you probably won't ever see in person. It does nothing to effect the originality of the Kobe 8.

The upper was white with pure platinum mixed in with a sulfur-esque pattern with a black heel clip, midsole, and out sole. If my phone wasn't busted I would have taken a picture.

yep.. nike release some tech fleece version for $80 - they sold out faster than shoes releases and I'm not exaggerating.
