OFFICIAL NYk '22 offseason thread, RJ extended

True but for all those guys it’s worth the $$ if you add them to a contending mix, they’re not starting building blocks.

Yea I agree. Leon has an infatuation with Brunson clearly. I need to see the full roster if this happens.

Is anyone curious why are the Spurs moving on from Murray?

This is not a typical move from Pop or the Spurs organizations.
He’s two years from being maxed and we just saw with Jerian Grant that teams don’t trade good value for guys they can just max in FA themselves unless it’s a superstar. If the Spurs are going to trade him, now makes sense.

Coupé It Coupé It was right all along. We really shoulda just traded for Westbrook and run him with the young guys. Wouldve had a **** ton of cap space, kept all our picks, and the young guys coulda had a full run. Possibly even padded their stats with Westbrook here.

Coulda got rid of most of our bad contracts in 1 trade without giving up any “assets”. Probably even get something in return. All for 1 year of Westbrook.

Since we want to give all our guys away ....

Tradr package?

still no thanks on zion
hasn’t even seen an NBA court in over a year

dude gotta be one of the most overhyped prospects ever

Zion is tied with Spida for 3rd on my priority list after Murray and Brunson. i legitimately do not see the hate or underrating of Brunson. he's been a leader and has improved every season, even playing behind/along side Luka. we haven't had a PG of even close to that quality since....maybe Chauncy (to be generous)? Murray is already an all-star that does everything, which is why he's #1. Zion has his health issues and even though Spida is an exciting player, we need a PG in the worst way. i dont wanna see Spida AND Randle on our team.

i wouldn't say zion is overhyped... he is great when healthy but that's the problem he is never healthy...so ya great talent but why throw the bag at him and rely on him when he can't stay on the court... regardless its a unrealistic he gets traded here... and yes the westbrook trade would make sense but what makes you think the lakers want any of our players...like others have said we don't have any great assets besides RJ and our own first round pick which are non negotiable

I'm not even looking at Zion. That ship has long sailed. And the Pelicans will be legit next season...

What I will say is as someone who has watched the kid since high school, and watching him average 27/7/3.5 on 61% shooting as a 20yr old, I can't wait to see him make these fools eat crow all next season. He might even come close to snatching the scoring title next year. The delusion of folks acting like he's just any other guy 😂😂 only hope that anyone has in stopping him is him staying injured. That's the haters ONLY chance in being right about him. Just wait and see...

No hate for Brunson he’ll just never be an all star so I’m not sure what the direction of the team is. Doubling down on Randle and RJ core with Brunson added to the mix? Eh….

Ideally there is a sign and trade for Brunson and Randle. I do not want both on our team. If you look at the Grizz and even the Heat, you don’t need to be littered with all-stars to be competitive. You need quality at every position though. If we can snag Murray/Brunson, RJ continues to improve, and one of our young guys take a leap, we’ll have something. Saying Brunson will NEVER be an all-star is asinine. Dude gets better and better and will NEVER be an all-star?

They wouldn’t be going after Brunson this hard if the plan was to trade Randle. I also dont like having 3 lefties on the team with no spacing.

We really might have to go after Turner if this happens.

Well Miami and Grizzlies are who they are specifically because of great drafting and player development. But I agree that if you have that you can build a team around one top level star- which they also both have.

Maybe it is asinine but I don’t see Brunson as having that ceiling. I guess you could say his ceiling is higher than Lamelo’s last season but we all know that was just fan voting. Is he going to be better than a Zach Lavine?

this team has money to spend. let them spend. brunson is a flexible player with lots of upsides.
he's not THE pg, the knicks desperately need but that ain't gonna happen anytime soon for the knicks. i'm more concerned that brunson may be stunted by a system in which tom thibodeau is coach - the man has limited vision

this season will be just another excercise in the team developing an actual identity after this past season's mess

I don't want to spend 100+ milion on Brunson, but if the Knicks do .... it is what it is .... like some alluded, he is not the PG we need but we are going to settle.

If we make the playoffs, a 2nd round exit is our best season.

Obviously we are all looking at it differently .... but I think letting the youth rock and signing short term deals with solid players is probably a better option.

Although Im against signing Brunson if he joins the Knicks I'm rooting for him to be successful vices rooting against him to say I told you so like some do.

the problem with the youth movement is that we do not have a coach that fits that plan. so the idea of just letting the young guys rock is great in theory, but there's pretty much no chance of actual execution. i'm not saying Brunson is our missing piece, BUT if the team is trying to win, then he is what we need. like i've said many times, that playoff berth 2 years ago screwed up our rebuilding timeline. now that the FO sees that the team can make the playoffs, they're not going to back off on trying to add talent through FA to build on that. even though we traded for 3 high FRPs that likely wont convey for years, those are still assets. assets that we didnt have.

i dont think anyone thought Dejounte Murray would be an all-star, but his game improved dramatically. i'm not saying Brunson is going to be an all-star, but to say he won't is extremely pre-mature. Lavine is another good example of someone who was just a dunker to now all-star. if Brunson becomes a Kyle Lowry or FVV, then we'll be aight.
