Considering that they all go for over a $1000, I would say that is a good deal.Originally Posted by Luong1209

That's not a bad price. A lot of guys are trying to unload their 24-105 which they got with the 5D Mark II kit. Now's the best time to getone before 5D II bodies become readily available. If you'd like to save up a little more, the 24-70 f/2.8L is one of the best walk-around lenses around.Really sharp wide open. If you don't need f/2.8 for low-light, the 24-105 is an excellent lens too. Are you using a crop or full sensor body? If you'reusing a crop, 24 might not be wide enough for your liking.Originally Posted by Luong1209

Yea, I decided to pull the trigger on 775. 24-70 is a bit more expensive and I thought this was my budget, so I bought it.Originally Posted by Rap Sizzle

it's more than enought for a starter cam. it's what i have. 300 with that lens isn't too bad. but i'm sure you can get it lower.but $300 is average. i actually LOVE mine. i bought a D80 to replace my D50, but i sold the D80 because i loved the D50 so much more.. but that's justpreference.Originally Posted by J PayCheck
Any experts or users of Nikon D50? What do you think of this dslr, review, opinion, etc. Also, how does $300 (with 18-55mm lens included) sound?
I knew its an older dslr (2005) but I just want an entry level dslr to cont. to "play" and learn with before I look into spending more money in this hobby. I'm moving up from a Canon G5 (also an older P&S) that had some limited manual controls, raw capabilities, among other features I was able to use.
Any information provided would be appreciated. Thanks!
Oh and I guess for the sake of contribution...
I was told they're pretty much the same lens besides the 24/28, the 28 is just a discontinued model. Don't take my word for it though.Originally Posted by elboricua 6
Yo Rap what's the difference between the 24-70 f/2.8 and the 28-70 f/2.8? They are both L .. is it the 4mm? Or is the 24mm that much better wide open? What?
Yep. It pretty much is the same as the 24-70 just an older version of it. If you can get it for around $600-700, it's a pretty good deal. Somepeople might not notice the 4mm difference but those who shoot wide might. Congrats on the 24-105L pickup Luong.Originally Posted by Luong1209

elboricua 6: Some C&C for you.
On #1, not that it was your fault (more the Sun's), but the glare on the mask is kinda distracting. I'm sure it wasn't something you would have noticed at the time, but my attention went straight to that. Otherwise a well composed shot. I don't think the DoF could have been captured better--not too narrow, nor to wide. Great job.
On #2, the background is really really bright. If you shot in RAW, try selecting just the background and mess around with the levels in PS. It's 5AM so I won't try it now, but if I remember I'll try to show you what I would do. Once again, though, I like the shot. Placement of the subject is great. Almost gives the subject a creepy "stalker" sort of a presence. Not the right word, but the first wordthat come to mind. (Chuck P. anyone?)
On #3, I personally do not like that much desaturation. I like the idea, but I would've gone for more of a sepia tone in the processing. With a shot composed of Earth tones, I personally think it lasts a little bit of contrast. At the same time though, it's hard to get the contrast in that light without losing the contrast between your low lows and your high highs in it. I would've toned down the desaturation just a tad and boosted the contrast a little. If you really want to spend some quality time with PS, you could try to get the levels just right. I have to tell you, though, one thing I try not to mess with in PS is levels because figuring them out is a pain in the $#*+. I definitely think about how much I don't want to have to mess with levels when I'm composing a shot because it's that much of a pain. Sometimes auto-levels just doesn't do it for me.
Keep in mind that these are all just my personal opinions. Great shots though. You definitely have an eye for great composition. Your shots seem well thought out before hand.
Luong1209: Probably the only time that this is a congratulatory statement, but "Congrats on the L".
