***Official Political Discussion Thread***

In will be October of 2020 and Donald Trump will probably blame Andrew Gillum for Florida being flooded after a Hurricane. At a rally he will ask, "Name one place run by a black person that doesn't get flooded? Name one," he will bellow.

Fake news?

In April of this year, Donald Trump himself said that Michael Cohen was a fine person who wouldn't lie or make up stories

You don't trust our president?

Surely you understand the nuance of past and present tense.

I wonder how he feels about the President saying that the Emory and Yale Law educated woman in his home state isn't qualified for the job? Or making false claims about Gillum being a thief? These again aren't direct enough for him to show that he's racist. He has to say explicitly that Abrams isn't qualified because she's black and that Gillum is a thief because he's black.

I think that saying someone is unqualified is not racist. Whether it is true is a different story.

Calling someone a thief is also not racist. Whether it is true is a different story.

You are correct that adding "because they are black" would make both statements racist.

Trump in the past has expressed interest in buying the J. Edgar Hoover FBI building if the relocation that had been planned across multiple administrations went through. It is located just one block from Trump's International Hotel.
However as president he'd no longer be able to purchase it and proceeding with the less costly relocation effort would open up the opportunity for Trump's real estate competitors to scoop it up.
That is, until the relocation effort was suddenly abandoned in favor of the costlier plan to keep the current location and renovate it.

The WH and administration officials denied the president having any involvement in the FBI HQ matter.
This is what GSA Administrator Murphy told Congress:
"This direction that we got came from the FBI," she told a House committee in April. "It was the FBI that directed GSA as to what its requirements would be."

However that congressional testimony is contradicted by previous Trump administration emails released by House Democrats earlier in October.
An email from GSA Administrator Murphy to a WH official said this:
"The president was briefed yesterday on this by the GSA administrator [Murphy], Deputy [Attorney General Rod Rosenstein] and FBI Director [Christopher Wray] and signed off on this path forward."
Other emails include the following:
"a demolition/new construction per the president's instructions" and "what POTUS directed everyone to do."

New emails also suggest the WH lied to the public about the cost of the FBI HQ relocation. Not going forward with the relocation but redeveloping the Hoover building instead is actually the more expensive option, contrary to the WH's public statements.

Emails Appear at Odds With White House Statement on FBI Relocation Costs
Documents suggest Trump administration was aware plan to redevelop J. Edgar Hoover building would cost more than a move to the suburbs

Democrats seek answers on Trump's role in U.S. FBI headquarters project
Congressional Democrats on Friday asked the White House for more information about planning for a new FBI headquarters and released a government email that they said raises fresh concerns about the Trump administration’s handling of the matter.

In the latest skirmish between top Democratic investigators in the U.S. House of Representatives and the administration, five lawmakers sent a letter to White House Chief of Staff John Kelly including the internal email from February 2018.

The Feb. 13 email included in the letter says a White House-backed proposal for a new FBI building at the agency’s existing headquarters site in central Washington, D.C., would result in a “less secure facility” and have a “higher per seat cost” than an earlier plan to move the FBI to the suburbs.
The letter was signed by senior Democrats, including Elijah Cummings and Peter DeFazio, who would take over leadership of powerful House committees if their party wins a House majority in Tuesday’s congressional elections.

White House spokeswoman Lindsay Walters said: “We have received the ranking members’ letter and are currently reviewing it.” The General Services Administration (GSA), which manages federal buildings, referred questions to the White House.

The FBI’s decaying, 1970s-built home in the J. Edgar Hoover Building is one block from the Trump International Hotel.

In their letter, the lawmakers reiterated concerns “with President (Donald) Trump’s direct involvement in the administration’s abrupt decision to reverse longstanding plans to relocate the Federal Bureau of Investigation headquarters.”

They said the administration’s support for keeping the FBI where it is on prime commercial land, would “block potential competitors from developing the existing property on Pennsylvania Avenue across the street from the Trump Hotel.”

They questioned “why the White House and GSA allowed President Trump to participate directly in a decision that affects his own personal financial interests.”

The email shows, they said, that administration officials knew at least as early as February 2018 that constructing a new FBI headquarters on its present site would cost taxpayers more than relocating the agency to nearby Virginia or Maryland.

The members of Congress questioned why White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders, in response to an earlier letter, said on Oct. 18, “Once again House Democrats have it all wrong. The president wanted to save the government money, and also the FBI leadership did not want to move its headquarters.”

Last month, the same Democrats sent a letter to GSA saying they had serious concerns about an “abrupt decision” by Trump to abandon earlier plans to relocate the FBI out of Washington.

In the earlier letter, the Democrats said that before he became president, Trump expressed interest in the FBI leaving its present home so he could buy the land and redevelop it.

After he was sworn in as president and became disqualified from buying the land, the Democrats alleged, Trump became “dead opposed” to the government selling the FBI property to other commercial developers who might compete with his nearby hotel.

In their latest letter, the Democrats asked Kelly to provide them by Nov. 15 extensive details on discussions, documents and communication between the White House, GSA, FBI and others regarding the FBI headquarters project.

The House committees on which the Democrats sit are now controlled by Trump’s fellow Republicans, none of whom signed the letter.

Considering that Black people are often attributed the worst negative qualities in the context of the US society, it isn't a stretch to say that since Trump's accusations are unfounded, the only motivation behind his statements is his personal feelings about the politicians he keeps insulting, who all happen to be Democrat and black.

But you already knew that. You're just playing the game of plausible deniability.

In legal terms, we apply a preponderance of evidence standard to most things in politics. If we look at Donald trump’s conduct as a private citizen; his conduct and policies and policy preferences, as President and his statements through out his life, it is hard not to conclude that he is a white supremacist.

The same could be said that he is misogynist. The same standard of evidence shows he is classist.

If we look at the percentage of Americans who are not wealthy, not male and not white, we see that at least one of those descriptors applies to a majority of Americans.

It is a bad situation when the executive branch of your country is controlled by someone who is biased against the vast majority of his fellow countrymen.

The same biases that Trump has exist within the legislative and judicial branches. Taken all together, we cannot call out current situation anything other than hostile, minority rule.

We can agree to disagree on whether it is a stretch.

I disagree with much of what you have stated, respectfully.

Chapo just did a whole episode about Dinesh D’Souza’s bizarre movie where he now claims that Democrats are the heirs to slavery, the KKK and also Nazis.

Among other things, there is an uncredited actor who played Frederick Douglas and is likely wearing black face. Keep in mind that Dinesh is considered a public intellectual among conservatives.
