Warriors center O'Bryant is hoping to play elsewhere
Warriors center tired of watching games from bench

Mickael Pietrus was the most voluble Warrior seeking a change of venue before the NBA's trade deadline last week. But he isn't the only Golden Stateplayer who would have welcomed a move or is hoping to play elsewhere next season.

"I'll play anywhere I'll (get a chance to) play," center Patrick O'Bryant said. "I'm a basketball player, not a basketballwatcher."

This much is clear: He doesn't plan to serve under Coach Don Nelson again.

"Obviously, if something weird were to happen and Nellie didn't (have his option picked up), then maybe," O'Bryant said of a return to theteam that drafted him No. 9 overall in 2006 but declined to pick up his third-year option last summer.

And if Nelson does return? "Then it probably wouldn't be my first choice," O'Bryant said with a wry smile.

Grin and bear it is what O'Bryant's career has been reduced to. He'll never know what Mike Montgomery, Nelson's predecessor and an avowedlover of back-to-the-basket centers, would have done with him.

But it's hard to think O'Bryant's situation would have been worse. He has played only 88 minutes this season and did not even suit up Tuesday asthe Warriors muddled along without starting center Andris Biedrins.

"He needs to get more consistent, to where you know what he's going to do," Nelson explained. "Less turnovers. A dominance in somethingthat he does, whether it's shot-blocking or rebounding. And a few other things. That's enough, huh?

"It's kind of all over the map. He passes a little bit, rebounds sometimes, sometimes he'll block a shot. But there's no consistency there. So I never know what he's going to do in a game or in a practice."

Nelson - who considers raw rookie Kosta Perovic to be "pretty close" to O'Bryant on the depth chart - wouldn't rule out O'Bryantreturning next season but didn't exactly light up at the prospect.

"He's a free agent," Nelson said. "So we'll be one of 30 bidders in the free-agent market. He'll be on our board."

O'Bryant had hoped to be off their roster by now, traded to another team.

"There was some interest, but they couldn't find the right scenarios," O'Bryant said. "I would have liked to have gone somewhere andplayed, but I'm here. I'm staying ready if I get a chance."

That appears highly unlikely. Perhaps no moment has better encapsulated O'Bryant's time on the team as Monday's practice, when he and Perovicstood at either end of the floor as extra defenders during the Warriors' four-on-five drills.

The Warriors have had their share of first-round draft flops, but O'Bryant doesn't feel it's fair to lump him in that category.

"Not at all, because I haven't played much," he said. "You can't label something you don't know."

• Guard Baron Davis visited Christopher Rodriguez, the 10-year-old Oakland boy left paralyzed last month after being hit by a stray bullet while at a pianolesson. "He's an inspiration, for a kid to have a spirit like that," Davis said. "It puts things in perspective." Davis said he hopesto bring Rodriguez, who is still hospitalized, to a Warriors game this season.

It's sucks how we are most likely going to lose O'Bryant because he hates Nellie and vice versa. It's just that we are so weak up front, everybodyknows that, and I though that O'Bryant could of at least helped us if he got some consistent playing time. Today, O'Bryant logged 3 seconds. I mean, what the hell was that?

I feel sorry for the kid. Paralyzed at the age of 10 while at a piano lesson. That's not right

I would hope POB stays with us because he has shown that he has the ability to play Center in this league and is improving day by day. And we could always useanother big body.

On another note: does anyone know the name of the song that they play on the big screen before the starting line up??

^one would assume so. but i can understand how a player would be angry with nellie's ever inconsistent rotations. i, as a fan, get sick of it so ican't imagine how a player must feel.

yeah unless if ur name is monta, baron, or stephen...or POB I guess, you won't be sure of how much you'll be playing in a game...

Perovic was pretty good too in the only game that he was in..i believe 4-4 from the field and a couple of rebounds a nd a block or two...cmon nellie you have 7footers riding the pine! play them and give them a chance!

So with 25 games left in the season for us I'm thinking we got to go 17-8 to make the playoffs. What you guys think?

I already knew the outcome when I watched but I don't like missing games.

Just truly enjoy watching the game of basketball and it's nice knowing the Warriors still got the W even though Baron was putting up brick after brickafter brick.

crucial game tonight, especiall with portland lurking a few games behind us. we need to at least get one game from the series.

the west is no joke. Nice to see the warriors come out on top tonight.

The way nellie's been using the bench for the last two games is

hopefully we can win all these games this week...i think we'll slip in one of them though (likely the Orlando one)

Looking at the schedule I think we should go 19-5 which would have us finishing with a 55-27 record, but we all know there's games that slide away. I thinkwe must got atleast 16-8 and finish 52-30 to make the playoffs.
