Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

^^^Carell can act. He was very good in Little Miss Sunshine in a mostly non-comedic role. Same for his performance in Crazy Stupid Love, although not quite as impressive LMS.

saw place beyond the pines last night. good movie.

going to watch cloudy with a chance of meatballs 2 today :D

Ruffalo looking like David Cross.

Carrell looking just a bit older and fatter with a bad facelift.

Looks like an interesting flick.

Just watched He Got Game again. Last saw it ten years ago. More dramatic than I remembered. What happened at the end with the ball?
He threw it through a Space Jam portal where after they took Jesus' father basketball talent gave it to Jesus.
Honestly it felt like that. Did Denzel eventually get out and threw the ball to Ray? Did the ball fly from prison to the gym? Was it just a dream? Solid movie.

One of the parents on my son's soccer team trained at du Pont's fox catcher gym in the early 90s. He was a high school & collegiate wrestler. He said du Pont was mentally disturbed as well as the entire family. Movie looks good. Gotta hand it to Channing Tatum's agent. He's getting a ton of work. Some really solid projects too.

Honestly you'd have to ask Spike about the symbolism of that scene but I think it was basically a sign of closure and his pops officially passing the torch to Jesus after getting to see him, settle things, and clear the air as best as he could.

Something they did for money. It's ok. There's an anime Iron Man and solo for Wolverine. Not sure think there's one for Dr. Strange too.

I was not impressed by Don Jon at all. Some parts were good, but for the most part, I didn't enjoy it. Neither did my girl, who likes JGL.

^^^ Man, the American Horror Story billboards are too much. There are several huge ads for the upcoming season, which feature a white snake weaving in and out of the mouths of three women, around where I live in LA. I was driving with my 8 year old son and he saw one and asked me to explain it and I was pretty much speechless. I finally came up with, "its just a weird picture for a TV show" an changed the subject.

I know they're supposed to be provocative and they have succeeded in that regard.

If I understand correctly, this season is about witches or something similar. Either way, I'll check in early and see how it plays out.

Yeah, its called "AHS: Coven," so I'm assuming witches are involved. Got some good people in it. Jessica Lange is back again. Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts.

Elaboration on Don Jon hate:

I'm from California. I've grown up here my entire life. I've never been to the East Coast other than to Florida for a weekend.

I can't stand Jersey accents. They seem so artificial. I'll start with that.

The film is incredibly shallow. It's characters are all pretty shallow, with the exception of Moore, but even then she's just alright. JGL's boys, incredibly annoying, empty. ScarJo, incredibly annoying, empty. The premise of a guy who can't give up his porn because he hasn't experienced good sex, incredibly annoying, empty. JGL's family, albeit Tony Danza was kind of funny, it was still annoying and empty.

I don't really get it. This was bad.

I can't think of anyone off the top of my head that is missing. I'd have to sit down and think a while.

Kind of think the dude from Heroes could get a mention over the Homeland folks, or Glenn Close. Syler I think his name was, the dude who plays Spock. He was an awesome bad guy, the show just ran out of gas after 20 episodes. :{

These are kind of generic complaints. The male best friends are shallow? That's a majority of comedies. Johansson is written that way on purpose, they don't present her as someone Jon has a deep emotional connection with, he even repeats.. "She's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen". Nothing about her personality, just her looks. He thinks she's the one or someone special, but she tries to change him quickly. Telling him to go to school, to meet his family and their friends, that he won't be cleaning his own apartment, etc. The sister breaks it down for Jon, all Scarlett wanted to do was change Jon into someone else.

It's not that he hasn't experienced good sex, it's that he doesn't "lose himself" in the other person, that's the whole point Moore makes to him. Jon has good sex, but he's missing the connection, that's why he's unsatisfied. The supporting characters weren't fully formed or fleshed out deeper, yeah that's an issue, but ehh.. it's an issue in a ton of movies. They served their purpose for the story at least. The overbearing mother who wants grandkids, the disinterested sister, the father who he fights with, nothing revolutionary but oh well.

How was Cloudy 2? Might take my son if I hear good things.
it was great. i am sure you and your son would enjoy it. i actually enjoyed it more than part 1. there was this grumpy cucumber that had me rollin.

I fell asleep twice while watching Cloudy 2 never having watched the 1st one. Looking back I should've opted to watch Riddick or Rush or w/e else that's good in theaters. Only saw it cuz I was with some kids in DC.

I haven't seen Don Jon yet but your "criticisms" of it seem hollow and vapid JA. Nothing compelling to make me think it isn't good. I dunno maybe you should've been a bit more open minded like not letting an accent get to you despite it being a real thing and not artificial like you think. Just watch a romcom.
