Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Dude. **** yes.
The Prestige is legendary. Nolan x Bale alone makes it

Jackman, ScarJo, Michael Caine... And David Bowie playing Tesla????
Dude I love the chutzpah of this movie. Even on paper it's astounding.

So well-written
It's smart (I guess all of Nolan's joints are)
Incredibly well acted
And it's got so many quotables

It's in my top 5 of all time.
That cast is so
sick.gif

Not a huge animation fan, but I heard good things about Wreck It Ralph. Going to give it a go now

saw goodwill hunting :eek . affleck and damon wrote that movie at a young age. great film. noticed the bad guy from 2 fast 2 furious was in it. robin williams was great. damon killed it as well. minnie had me :o . the potential to be great but do you owe it to yourself or society. its not your fault :( . solid 7.5/8.

I could watch O Brother, Where Art Thou? a thousand times and never tire of it.

I didn't like that movie or The Big Lebowski at first but love them after second viewings & there after.

The Cohen Bros retelling of the Odyssey through Brother is genius.

man.. whenever I see 'o brother where art thou' on I always find myself watching it.. has definitely grown on me over the years

Watched The Pretty One tonight, kind of a stupid story.. but eh it was OK I guess. I found Zoe Kazan cute enough to keep watching, also a fan of Jake Johnson so it worked.
.

My favorite movie of all time.

If you HAD to pick your 1 favorite movie of all time, what would it be and give a brief reason why?

Dazed and Confused for me. The whole vibe in it man. Muscle Cars, Rock and roll, drugs/beer. I wish I grew up in that time period. Not a thing to do, watching the days go by and just living. Teenage wasteland type deal

The Prestige is fire. Nolan is King. Come at me bros.

Don't think many would disagree with you or come at you bro. The reveal at the end had me all

700

I don't know how I didn't pick up on it sooner during my first watch

Wasn't there another "magic/illusion" based movie that dropped the same time as the prestige ?
From what I heard, Hollywood drops similar two similar movies at the same time.

I believe it was the Illusionist

Correct. Prestige and Illusionist came out around the same time, both were very good.

I don't know if its always by design, but it has happened a few times. Prestige-Illusionist; Inferno-Dante's Peak; Armageddeon-Deep Impact, etc.

The blatant recent one I remember is Friends with Benefits and No Strings Attached.

Don't forget White House Down & Olympus Has Fallen last year.

I thought I was watching trailers for the same movie :lol

Good Will Hunting

Because I relate.

When the discussion of favorite movie of all time comes up, though, I always say Good Will Hunting and Antwone Fisher, and literally the only reason I'm sticking w/ Good Will Hunting is because it came first, so it has years on Fisher.

But they're both my favorite movie of all time, because I relate to them both so much. They are both stories of overcoming extremely traumatic childhoods to move forward w/ some sort of 'normal' adulthood, where the 'scars' don't show day in and day out, and only those who are EXTREMELY close know how hard the struggle is, the struggle to 'act normal' as an adult, harboring/processing/working through the daily effects of childhood trauma/abandonment. Even hearing people try to relate w/ "Yeah, I know what you mean. My dad had a temper."  Nah, man. No.

Will and Fisher, 1a and 1a

I know the question was, "if you had to," but I honestly cannot pick 1 favorite movie. Really depends on what I'm in the mood for. I could maybe pick a favorite in each genre, like comedy - Anchorman; horror - OG Nightmare on Elm Street, etc. But I can't say that I have 1 overall favorite movie.
