Late but Ocean's 11 is a cable classic imo. 12 is unwatchable for me. 13 is okay for what it is.

And another Jump Street...apparently Lord & Miller's og ending was Jonah and Channing talking bout how they're never doing another one of these again.. Ad it tested real bad cuz it made audiences sad. So they came up with the...other ending(s). I dunno...not gonna hold me breath, even though this is making bank. Sounds like they wanna leave on top.

Yup. For the longest I thought Aliens > Alien. You couldnta told me.
But then Prometheus came out and gave me a reason to watch em again.

Alien is better. It's really better. The Xenomorph itself still creeps you out. (unless you catch a clear shot of it and wonder how the hell this scared anyone?? ) But the tension is still there and it works. The filmmaking and tone are so good still. You feel that fear and that mystery and that panic like it came out yesterday. And there's just this quality to the first Alien that you miss from movies.

And because the first one is so purely about tone and tension, it feels less dated to me, because it didn't lean on the big action that could only look so good in the 80s.

Les Mis

Excellent story. Very compelling, which is the only reason my girl got me to watch it; I was hooked w/ the conflict/character struggle she told me about. In the end, the child of poor factory worker turned prostitute was raised by a felon, and became this beautiful person, because she was raised in the loving environment provided by that felon.

But cotDAMN, they seriously spoke like 7 words. Singing, singing, singing, and more singing.

And Russel can't sing. Someone told me he sings good in Les Mis. Someone was wrong.

Hackman killed it, though. Hatheway was... meh.

I'll never watch it again... ever... but I'm glad I've taken it in.

I know it will NEVER happen, but I really wish someone would make that into a movie.

Where people actually talk.

Like normal.

And don't sing every damn thing they say.

Les Mis is a "sung-through musical" which means they sing everything

Compare it to something like Grease, where it's more of a traditional movie, that they happen to sing in.



I want to be greedy and see a 3rd Jump Street. The chemistry is so damn good between Hill and Tatum and I'm far more confident in Lord and Miller giving us a third and doing it well after seeing how great 22 was.

I hoped 22 Jump Street would be close to the original, but it surpassed my expectations. They already played with the sequel tropes and meta-commentary in the 2nd one, I'm sure they could find plenty of things to poke fun of in a 3rd movie. If they don't and go out on top, I respect it and I'll rewatch the two movies all the time.. but roll the dice and go for the seldom seen great comedy trilogy.

I really don't care for sing song movies. I've seen my fair share but they never do anything for me. It sucks mostly cuz the songs aren't good.

Grease has like 2 songs I liked. That song at the end, I think "Grease is the word" and one other.

I think it connects to me not liking theater AT ALL. I know it's the OG medium for thespians and it has a lot of prestige or w/e but I just don't see the draw. something about it that just puts me off even when they're good plays.

In my mind tv and film will always be the pinnacle.

I'm right there with you. Generally don't care for musicals and have never seen a play that I really liked.

I think the only musicals I've ever watched more than once are the original Annie movie and the live-action Popeye movie with Robin Williams. And that was when I was a kid. I haven't seen any of the highly acclaimed musicals that have come out in the last 15 years or so. Chicago, Les Mis, Dreamgirls, etc. All easy passes. Luckily for me, my wife's not into them either, so I'm not forced to watch them against my will.

However, sort of oddly, I'll admit that I've been to a couple operas that I enjoyed. Mozart. I can't exactly reconcile my distate for musicals and appreciating operas. I guess its not annoying if people are breaking into song every few minutes if they're not singing in English?

Sweeney Todd, South Park, My Fair Lady, The Simpsons when they did the musical episodes early on in the series, Westside Story, about all that I've seen or remember.

Chicago is a tremendous film tho, musical or not, those performances were amazing.

Alien might deserve more credit, cuz original, tense, etc, but Aliens has about a billion times more rewatchability than the first.

Bill Paxton shoulda won a damn Oscar for that movie.

^South Park: The Movie man. :\ I knew this dude who didn't have a childhood so I put it on a few years ago after not seeing it in like 10, and I didn't even realize, I knew every word to every song. Hell, I could half the movie. I don't know what it is that people see in musicals, that I just don't. I mean, I don't get what the huge deal about Frozen is. But if they get the feeling from em, that I got from South Park: The Movie, then more to ya.

Oh, and I liked Sweeney Todd a whole lot more than I thought I would. Last really good Depp movie.

And Les Mis...I could look at Amanda Seyfried. And yeah, Hackman killed it. I only watched it because everyone kept saying...game over...Hathaway's getting an Oscar. I didn't get it at all, until the scene, and...yeah...okay...right there. I think even if you don't like musicals, that scene will have you feeling some way, regardless.

The movie was aight. Some of it came out pretty cool for what it was. The style and aesthetic and unique feel they got out of live singing got over real well. It's just...the director mashed the tilt the camera and shove in the actor's face button to death. And the 2nd half lost me, I wasn't feeling any of the new chars or anything.

And Russell Crowe can sing. It's just...he can't sing any of Javert's songs. He's not that guy. It was out of his range, and the louder he had to project, the worst it got.

Never seen West Side Story, though.

You never saw West Side Story in your entire academic career? Idk if you're lucky or missed out. Literally only seen it in like 4 different classrooms over the years I'm a big Natalie Wood fan so that's partly why I like it even though she didn't do any of the singing.

Musicals are generally more entertaining than straight up plays. Saw once and bullets over broadway and it was wayyyyyyy more fun thn waiting for Godot even though Godot had professor X and Magneto in it. Les mis is prob my favorites. I enjoyed cats as a little kid. Sweeney Todd movie was great never saw the show.

I agree that south park and early Simpsons have some of the best music of all time. Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory (which I called Charlie and the chocolate factory for most of my life until the terrible new movie made me realize)

Can't forget the amazing classic Disney movies. Lion king, Aladdin, beauty and the beast, Jungle book

I remember I started watching Sweeney Todd and when they started singing I stopped watching.

I watched most of Chicago on mute. Had so many of my fav ladies in it I might as well attempt a viewing.

It's worse when the songs are bad and that's strictly a subjective thing. You couldn't get me to watch any version of Les Mis. Felt like I saved on money when ppl were saying Crowe was bad and Jackman can't sing and I happen to love me some Amanda Seyfreid.

South Park is like a rare exception. Similar to the Mormon musical, the lyrics kinda constantly keep you entertained and make you laugh but even then watching that on Broadway is a bother with all the ppl and I know one could say it's the same thing as watching a very funny movie in theaters but for a movie there's surround sound not ppl on a stage you're trying to hear plus the lights are off unlike in some plays where you see all the ugly ppl around you.

Yeah when I was younger cuz of school I've probably watched Westside story too many times

I feel Opera's a whole different thing and more music than close to theater. More music that tells the most of the story than a story that has singing in it. Can't knock that either and I enjoy it as well.
