Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Saw Lucy tonight...

It's an odd but interesting film.

It's part X-Men, part Limitless, part Tree of Life > incapsulated in what Stephen Hawking's brain would look like if it was spread out into movie form. The ending was weak and really the entire premise feels pointless, but it's a decent watch.

I can't say it's good, but parts of it were mindless fun and an easy watch. There is some heavy "intellectual" dialogue throughout that may put people off as it is a bit tedious but the action scenes are cool.

They didn't show enough of Scar Jo using the whole maximum ability of her brain enough for me.

Joaquin Phoenix being Courted Heavily by Marvel to Play Dr. Strange - http://wp.me/p2CCWq-3JC

Just what I thought really, especially with the movies you mention to explain some of it.

I'm usually a sucker for sic fi flicks so I'm definitely checking it out.

I didn't like The Master at all.

The acting was good through and through, but overall the film just felt empty and aimless to me.

Saw Sex tape tonight. (Chick nixed Apes).

I thought it was ok but some parts dragged. Mildly surprised it was so low on RT - 18%. Thought it was a decent silly date comedy

Just watched Enough Said...such a good movie..one of the better acting jobs all around ive seen in a movie..felt so genuine. chemistry between James and Julia was A1

Saw 'The Purge' Thursday night, and 'Purge 2' and 'Lucy' last night.

Both Purges are... meh. Interesting premise, but they seriously lost me from the very beginning of The Purge, saying it was 2022. We are not even CLOSE to being 8 years away from something like that.

"I don't know, Ska. I mean, if you think abou..."

Stop it.

No.

So right from the jump, setting it in like 2076 or something would have hooked me in more, but I understand why they didn't. If they did, they'd have to have all these technological consistencies that would detract from the whole point, so just set it in today's America, and... GO! I get that, but it still left a bad taste in my mouth from the jump.

2nd Purge is far and away better than the first, and all the different subplots came together nicely towards the end. All I'm'a say without issuing a spoiler.

A!! Thank you, for THAT, Hollywood! The last maybe 15-20 minutes definitely felt rushed, like they could have easily made this a 2:15 film instead of the 1:30 runtime, but... I haz impress.

BUT... and I hate to be 'that guy'... but... the entire plot is based on a false premise. (definitely, someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but here goes) WE DO NOT JUST USE 10% OF OUR BRAINS. Have you ever heard a doctor go "Well, yes, ____ has brain cancer, but it's on the 90% that's not being used, so you guys are good"? Ummm... no. Ever hear of someone getting shot in the head and surviving because they were shot in the 90% region that's just... kind of... there? No.

Yes, people have been shot in the head and survived, but it's not because they were shot in the useless 90% part of their brain. This is a science myth, that people collectively eat up, and it's false.

Good movie, though; no, GREAT movie. 2 thumbs up.

I'm dying over here @the 10% brain comment, just when I had stopped laughing at the "I don't know, Ska. I mean, if you think abou..."
Good laugh. I should rep that

I think he meant aimless in that there wasn't really any resolution in the movie. Did The Cause really do anything for Freddie? Is he in a different place at the end of the movie than at the beginning of it? I know PTA made the movie intentionally hazy, but that threw a lot of audiences off.

As a narrative, nothing really happens because at the end of the day Freddie doesn't change and just goes back to being the same person he was before. That's because Dodd is obviously full of **** and it looked like Amy Adams was the real "master" behind the scenes anyways :lol

Just re-watched My Dinner With Andre. I went from thinking this wasn't as good as I remember it to loving it to realizing that this was an incredibly depressing conversation that covers a lot but doesn't have a solution like most thought provoking conversations filled with self realizations and discovering new truths. All about the journey itself not where you end up.

All in all really good movie.

Edit: How is Expendables 3 online already?

It's not even in theaters yet.

The first 2 any good?

:eek

there are going to be some "off with their head" moments at the studio, whether intentional or by accident...and yes the first two were money

And it's an HD copy.
Not the copy where someone filmed it from their theatre seat.
Yea someone straight leaked that joint.
