Brando spent most of his career being really difficult to work with from the things I've heard .

I didn't see the documentary, but I actually saw Island of Dr. Moureau in the theater. LOL. Don't remeber much other than it being pretty bad.

I also remember thinking that Brando was acting in his own movie. His "performance" was just weird.

I remember asking awhile back about what everyone's favorite go to movie to cheer them up, so I started reading through old posts. This thread is great.

Everyone who has been here since the beginning, newcomers, others who have moved on from Niketalk, etc. There's been a lot of laughs, arguments, in depth discussions, and so on. It's been an escape to talk about movies at times, a time waster, thought provoking, engaging.

Thanks for everyone's input over the years.

Currently watching Silver Linings Playbook. Easily one of my favorite movies.

Brando was a real nut at the end of his career

I was reading one of those random lists that are linked at the bottom of some pgs, 10 most difficult actors.

Brando stopped giving a **** near the end The disrespect to directors was crazy. Son was not caring about lines, showing up on set with no pants on (refusing to put on pants ), I forget which movie but he created some makeshift bucket hat and refused to take it off, mean unfunny insulting "pranks", etc. Just so wild.


Also, I had no idea Gene Hackman was such an *** to Wes Anderson on The Royal Tenebaums (a movie I love and it's a complete contrast to the character he plays). Gwyneth was scared of him and a few others of the cast It's said now that when some of them get together and the movie is brought up they can't talk about it without talking about how Hackman behaved the entire time.

I love Tenenbaums too, I always find myself watching it when it's on.

I think Shane Black and I have a common trait, that we both love movies set around Christmas time. Like Silver Linings Playbook, it's not a Christmas movie and really only the film's 3rd act takes place around Christmastime... but just hearing "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" come on as they're getting ready, it just makes me happier. 

It's got a great soundtrack too... Always Alright by the Alabama Shakes, Unsquare Dance as he meets Tiffany for dinner, Girl from North Country (a favorite of mine), Hey Big Brother, and Danny Elfman does a good job with the score too.

That was Dr Moreau. He also wore an earpiece and had someone feeding him his lines...didn't even read the script

The production of that movie was some wild stuff...Richard Stanley sneaked back onto the set after he was fired and walked around in dog man makeup to conceal his identity.

Good Will Hunting... god I could just rave about that movie for pages. 

Great writing? Check. Amazing... AMAZING monologues for Robin Williams on the bench about life and loss and experiencing it all, then you get him telling the story about how had to go see about a girl. Damon gets his shine too with his prediction when he takes that job.

Great performances? Check. The above mentioned speeches, Damon and Williams' "It's not your fault" scene, Affleck's blue collar wisdom, Minnie Driver, Stellan Skarsgard, all awesome.

Themes? Check. Abuse, loss, fulfilling one's potential, connection, fear of the unknown, and so on.

Hell it's even got a great soundtrack.. Elliot Smith was a great compliment to this movie.

Humor? Absolutely. This movie is flat out hilarious at times. It's rare to have a movie hit those emotional beats so hard.. but also make you laugh out loud just the same way. It's such a great example of comic relief to an otherwise dramatic movie, same with giving the characters multi-dimensions.. they feel real. 

It's got iconic lines and scenes.. It's not your fault, Damon outsmarting the Harvard guy in the bar, I gotta go 





And the final line "Son of a ***** stole my line"... just perfect.

I know that feeling.. I was going to originally mention Hugo as one of my favorite "Christmas" movies, but it's not really about Christmas, it's just set in the winter and was released for the Christmas season.

And there's just something about that Christmas at Hogwart's opening jingle.

I still have never finished Good Will Hunting. Whenever it's on tv I always get to the part where damon is talking to williams in his office and threatens to kill damon if he talks about his wife again. I always change the channel and forget to put it back.

The great thing about good will hunting for me is that I first saw it when I was a punk *** teenager. Cool movie yah, but I totally missed the point. I was mesmerized by how awesome and smart Matt Damon was and how cool it would be to be a genius like him. The real story is Robin WIlliams love story with his wife. I couldn't appreciate what williams' character was trying to convey about true love.

Now that I'm older and I've been there it hits home so very hard. To love and to have lost someone is very hard. And the little things are so much more important when they are gone. You can miss the way they snort when they laugh more than the amazing sex you might have once had. Williams put on one of the greatest performances of all time with his role.

Same and I've seen it 3 or 4 times. Honestly can't tell you exactly what happened and, TBH, I stopped caring to figure it out. I'm satisfied with the vague understanding that he was dead or in a coma .... Or something. That's enough to for me to still enjoy it.
