Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Well, what do you know? The best show on TV was actually recognized as such. Nice job, Academy.

Best Drama has been a good competition the past few years... Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Thrones, Boardwalk, Homeland S1, etc.

This season though? I'd have given it to Better Call Saul or Mad Men... GoT season 5 was lacking but it definitely deserved recognition. 9/10 you can make a case for plenty of nominees deserving the award. Same with Julia Louis Dreyfuss winning best actress... she should/could/will win every year she's nominated, doesn't make Poehler less deserving, of course.

Thrilled to see Hamm get his win finally.. still bummed Moss never won and damn Pete was never even nominated, which is crazy.

It was very cool to see Viola Davis win.

Caught Everest and Black Mass.

I'll only touch in Black Mass, just for my own interest of time. :lol

Although I liked Everest more, Black Mass was a blast. I really enjoyed it, despite it being so slow. It reminded me a lot of Killing Them Slowly and Out of the Furnace.

But Black Mass?

The performances make the goddamn film. I've never felt like I've seen a grittier mobster film.

I can't remember the last time I've ever been so blown away by an entire cast like I was with this. I don’t have the time to go into detail about all the actors, but Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Bacon, Peter Sarsgaard, Jesse Plemons, Corey Stoll, and Rory Cochrane? Goddamn man. I’m so glad that they stayed away from the typical actors you might see in this, like Chazz Palminteri, Mark Margolis, Tom Sizemore, Frank Vincent, etc.

But Joel Edgerton? He’s always been one of those guys who I see him in films, and I go, “Who’s that guy again? What have I seen him in?" But after The Gift? And this? MAN. What polar opposites. It's fun to see him get so balls deep in the game, and watching his confidence grow is awesome.

Johnny Depp was maniacal. I don't know if I've ever enjoyed him in a performance more than I did in this. Because I appreciated that it was a serious drama. And he was able to show his chops. Never before has he been so cold. Never before has been so terrifying. And I bought up every minute of it. If it were 2 hours of him on screen? I would've been totally good with that.

I don't even know what Olive Kitteridge was about but should be good if it's winning everything.
Yeah, Kitteridge winning all those awards had me thinking I should check it out :lol

Just cuz it's winning awards doesn't mean it's good. Most of these awards are politics. Friends patting friends on the back and nothing more
This is generally true but Olive Kitteridge is on HBO so it must be at least good.

I did notice from what I watched (I missed like a good hr of the awards somewhere in the middle) that tonight was the night for Kitteridge and Veep.

Uzi Aduba won? For OITNB? What a crock
Don't know how oitnb was a comedy before but is a drama now. I know it's kind of a dramody but it's more silly than serious.
Yea when the host mentioned it moved categories, and mentioned Ozu twice in his opening monologue, I should have seen the writing on the wall.

It was sillier last year, than either season 1 or 2 so, what a crock.

Is Everest only being shown in 3D? All the theaters around me only have it as 3D only, none are regular. First time I've ever seen this. I'll illegally download it later on if they're trying to force me to watch that 3D ****.

Season 3 OITNB was complete pile of ****. G A R B A G E

It's worth every penny. Just pony up and watch it in 3D.

Srsly it's one of the, maybe two, movies I've seen in 3D that make it work. Illegally download a movie that's MADE to be seen in IMax? Bad move.

I hate when theaters are only showing a movie in 3d. Means i'll have to wear my contact lenses instead of my eyeglasses. I had to watch Mad Max in 3d but they had newly designed 3d glasses that were the best fitting 3d glasses I've ever worn.

i dont mind 3d, never really adds anything to the movie but it doesnt bother me anymore

4d is literally the worst thing ever though, asking me to pay extra to get water squirted in my face mid movie

fury road was great in 3d

also this is a cool video

Watched Mad Max 2: Road Warrior last night for the first time in years. Great, as I remebered. But we're all lucky that filmmaking techniques have caught up with George Miller's imagination because Fury Road really takes things to a new level.
