I'm surprised no one did to be honest.
From a purely technical aspect the movie warranted a selection, say what you will about the story and writing, it's impossible to think of movies within the last decade and not mention Avatar.

I'm surprised Minority Report or A.I. didn't fill anyone else's Sci-fi requirements.
BTW, just saw Brick which someone recommended, and it was a solid flick.
Also watched Chinatown again. Movie gets better and better every time I see it.

Also, I hated Avatar, but after reading about how James Cameron came into the film industry and his passion for SFX (he used to go to the USC library to read the thesis' of film students as "free film ed"), I've began to accept it as a director's love for pushing the envelope for technology rather than just a money making gimmick.
I still would never watch it again though.
