Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

I get where JRS is coming from on Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. I personal find that QT goes overboard with the violence for violence sake in his films, whether the person who is the subject of the violence is male or female. It’s why I’m not as big a fan of his as most of the other regulars in here.

All that said, I totally understand why many people would enjoy seeing the people who committed the Tate-Labianca murders getting the crap beat out of them.

Because the man is a good storyteller who is a talented writer but when he goes to these lengths to be edgy and funny he’s being a cheap lazy ****. Just because she’s a murderer in real life doesn’t mean we have to watch a woman get her head bashed for 5 minutes straight. That **** ain’t cool. And let’s not act like she’s a murderer in the movie. ***** ain’t do **** but that’s another argument for why the ending sucks. Movie was damn good for me up until th e last ten minutes.

It was pretty decent  . Am I a bad person for not having been bothered by it?
I think because it was so over the top, and so overacted and meant to be taken as something so unrealistic, it's not bad your werent bothered (imo). Then again, I wasn't bothered. I can see how some people were; a coworker of mine couldn't watch the whole scene and had to block her eyes after about the 2nd minute of the scene. I think if the violence were kept more toned down and realistic, it would have been very much more aligned with JRS' take and more people would be agreeing with his position. Maybe it was Leo's character decision that pushed it over the edge from just being gratuitous to being so far removed from reality that I wasn't bothered by it. Idk. I'm probably a bad person.

Definitely not. I wasn't bothered by the head stomping in Drive, desert beating in Casino or arm/stomach slicing in Green Room. I probably said "damn that's messed up" but that's it. It's a movie.

Let’s take a different scenario: Imagine if you are the only thing standing between that presumed murderer (or willing-to-be) Manson woman... and your wife and kids.

You’re going to do everything possible or imaginable to that person that’s threatening to kill those you love to protect them, regardless of the gender of the person whose trespassed into your home. So like Leo and Brad in the scenario the movie gave us, once anyone entered the home, and is threatening you or those in your home, then everything’s fair game.

Defend your property: and I understand you might get that aspect, and just don’t like QT reveling in it, but he shows and revels in all gratuitous moments in his films.

It’s a movie. He doesn’t have to write it in that way. And since the person isn’t even Tate’s murderer in the movie, there’s really no emotional attachment to it since Tate lives. That whole situation plays out very poorly because it’s so pointless. Maybe if she tried to kill Tate in the movie and Leo and Pitt intervenes I would feel different, but Tate’s life was never in jeopardy.

and my theater was laughing the entire time which is probably a bigger issue to discuss a different day since society has become so desensitized.

Now, in fairness, I think it's because we all got okie doked.

I didn't see the Inglorious way it was going to end, I probably should have. I thought we were really going to see him show us the Manson murders. I was fearful the entire time. Hell, when Pitt was at their camp, I was creeped out as ****. He had set the tone so tight, we were all holding our breath.

Then, suddenly Pitt (and the dog) jump to action and we all laughed like ha, got us Q. You're killing Hitler again, I didn't see this one coming ha ha ha. It went from so tense, and this is so sad, and such a real tragedy, to let's go silly and then use a flamethrower, roll credits.

That's how I took it. I literally laughed out loud like awwww, ya got me, damn it. I don't think he was purposely trying to say "let's beat women cuz it's fun".

Now, does Q have a few screws loose? Absolutely. A few weird issues? No doubt. But he's also written some powerful stories/movies FOR WOMEN. Did the end of Death Proof bother you when he had 3 beautiful women kick the ever loving **** outta Kurt Russell?

My initial draft strategy was to fill out genres that were thinner in my opinion... or at least ones that I was not as excited about deeper picks, but seeing personal favorites like Warrior, Baby Driver, and Interstellar getting snatched early I have decided to adjust and make sure I select some choices I feel very strongly about.

For my final pick of the 4th round, I'm selecting one of my favorite movies and favorite sports movies in recent memory. I liked it so much a day after seeing it in theaters I immediately watched a bootleg stream. A movie that continued a tradition and improved upon it...

Creed, Sports

You and Zik described my exact strategy. It’s all out the window now that my favs and heavy hitters are going FAST. Gloves are off.

Nah death proof was dope and I normally like the way he writes women. I just think he used this as a vehicle to get himself off to a woman being destroyed. Flamethrower scene was cool but it was the elongated fire place scene that bothers me.

Once again, with my first overall pick in the 5th round I will not be taking anything for granted and putting this category off any longer. I select a true cinematic masterpiece...

Avengers: Infinity War - Comicbook film

The children reactions in the theater when people evaporated made this one of my favorite films of 2018.
