Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

I was waiting for those two to come back quite frankly. Not loving the guy who plays the young Xavier that much and he can't pull off a bald look. Makes sense for a film with this concept.

My already posted views on DC's/WB's impending cluster**** invovling the JL movie and JGL possibly not being Bruce Wayne:
Exclusive: Is Joseph Gordon-Levitt already set to play Batman in 'Justice League'? Read more at http://www.hitfix.com/motion-captur...-batman-in-justice-league#wiRri3OuRBeTT30j.99

Was hoping they'd let Nolan's Bat be it's own thing.
It is it's own thing really. Levitt aint no real Batman anyway. I'm assuming if he takes the role it'll be as Bruce Wayne not John Blake or Robin.

I know for a fact if the Batman in the Justice League is not Bruce Wayne WB/DC will be planning another reboot within the year.
That suggestion sounds a bit lame as far as revealing a shared universe with Bats as the other guy to use. So I think they could do better than that.

If anything the two shouldn't even meet. After Supes saves the day and is flying in the sky they should switch to a radar screen with a blip on it and back out to show it's Bats in the cave tracing Superman's whereabouts holding a sliver of kryptonite in his hands.

Then again I'd rather a World's Finest movie way more than a JL one.

Anyway, I stand by what I said. The first JL movie and Batman is not even Bruce Wayne? So much FAIL. That's like if the Spidey reboot had Ben Reilly or May Parker as Spider-Man
If I was them I'd just go with the trilogy only exists in the Nolanverse. JGL is Bruce Wayne, don't reference anything from the trilogy, at best allude to Batman's crime fighting career, nothing more nothing less. Everything in the JL movie would be new continuity.

I'm not sure what villain they'd be bringing over but for a JL movie I could only think Ra's Al Ghul and that'd be fine. Just act like he had a different altercation with Batman. Wouldn't mind Liam being back as him and him being in another movieverse wouldn't be a big thing, it'd be similar to Jackman as Wolverine (who I think should be Wolverine until he drastically ages). Them other dudes like Scarecrow, Talia, and Bane would be lame. Two Face would be a surprise but out of place unless this JL movie's villains are the Legion of Doom and even that's a stretch.

Yuck a world where x men 3 exists :{

I think you guys are grasping for straws hoping Nolan and bale come back. Can't see it.

My big question with WB and JLA is... How are they gonna do a tough, gritty JLA movie when all the big JLA villains are aliens? :{  :lol

They've prided themselves on Nolan's dark Batman... They're trying to do the same thing with Superman... That doesn't work when your biggest villains are Darkseid, a bunch of evil twins, and a giant star fish...

How they approach MOS will be instructive in answering this question.

Besides, I think the real drama of these ensemble films (JLA, Averngers and in a separate context, Ocean's 11-13) isn't necessarily who the antagonist is or even how he/she fits into the reality, but the interplay between protagonists. The tension between Batman and Superman alone-- if executed properly-- could be enough to carry the film (and maybe even the series).

If WB wants to make this thing a success, they'll tell Christopher Nolan they'll fund the rest of his career and give him an outrageous amount of money to make this thing a legitimate project.
I almost forgot Frank Miller is rumored to direct this :rollin

EPIC in so many different ways :lol

I was just checking out the trailers on top of IMDB, there's probably about 12. Nothing really grabbed me.

Now You See Me, with Jesse Eisenberg, Michael Caine, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, and Woody Harrelson has a stacked cast. It seemed pretty typical though. Bank heist film using magic, feds trying to chase them down figuring out how they did it.

The Host is a film that looks like it's made to bank on the success of Twilight and it's lore now that it's gone. Only two humans left on earth, with people that are taking over Earth. Meh.

Admission seemed interesting, and I love Tina Fey. A single woman who's worked for an ivy league school her whole career gets connected with her son she gave up for adoption. Paul Rudd also stars.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones was definitely one of those films that is really hoping to capture the success of Twilight/True Blood/Vampire Diaries. Seemed like just another teen demon/vampire/zombie flick, based on a "Best-Selling Novel," :lol . Not interested in the slightest.

The Heat seemed like it was trying way too hard. Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy star in a female buddy-cop film. Bullock is a terrible FBI agent, and McCarthy is a terrible cop. Same director as Bridesmaids, but whatever. McCarthy is good and all, but I feel like she has no range.

Dark Skies looks like the next great-terrible horror film. It's demographic will love it, anyone with a brain won't. An alien-invasion film where we probably won't see very many aliens, and wasn't much else exciting. No name actors, and you've seen it all before.

I Give It a Year was charming for the most part, but I like most things British I see, so maybe I'm biased. A couple gets married when everything thinks it won't last. Simon Baker, Rose Byrne, and Anna Faris are the biggest names.

Great Expectations looked terrible, IMO. I never read it as a child, and it just doesn't grab me.

Jack the Giant Slayer looked kind of fun, and it's something I'd show my kid, if I had one. :lol . It's kind of cool to see Beast from First Class getting a lead role, but he looks too much like a Twatlight-character in this. Ewan McGregor and Stanley Tucci also have supporting roles.

Snitch looks like it could be okay if it were Rated R. It's stacked with familiar faces, other than the obvious Dwayne Johnson. Also includes Jon Bernthal (Shane, The Walking Dead), Susan Sarandon, Harold Perrineau (The Matrix films, Oz), and Michael Kenneth Williams. It looks kind of mediocre, and the director is a stuntman, so we'll see.

Epic looks like another pixar-film with great visuals but lacking in the story department. Same guy that made Ice Age and Robots. It'll probably get good reviews, but won't be anything too groundbreaking.

Last one was Les Miserables. I have no idea what to think about this one. A musical with Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, and Borat? Tom Hooper (The King's Speech, John Adams) seems like he'd be a great guy for it, and there isn't much that turned me away, I just don't know if it's something I'll enjoy.

Of everything I watched, Admission, Les Miserables, and maybe I Give it a Year are the only ones I'd consider to go see.

A couple I was looking forward to but never really heard much out of since were Passion, De Palma's newest thriller with Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace. I don't know what it is, but I love Noomi. I think she's gorgeous.

The other that I was really interested in seeing was Cosmopolis, that new Cronenberg film. I saw a trailer, never saw it come to any theaters near me, and I think it's out on Blu-ray somewhere.

What's everyone's take here for Zero Dark Thirty? Excited?

I'm going to a screening next week, and the early word is nothing but solid gold praise. Saying Chastain will win best actress over Jennifer Lawrence for this role.

Saying it's the most tense movie ever...etc.

Pretty stoked.

I'm interested but only for Chastain and the hype if it's really good.

Chastain had a hell of a year in 2011, and now 2012 she has Lawless and Zero Dark Thirty. She's close to top actress in Hollywood status.

Personally, I'm only interested if the hype is good. I didn't see Lawless, but nothing else that Chastain put out in 2011 interested me. The Tree of Life was far too pretentious for me.

Whether or not I've loved all her movies is less important, she's just been in excellent in them.

Loved her in Tree of Life, pretentious or not she had a solid performance

Great in The Help

Solid in The Debt and Take Shelter

I loved Lawless and she was great in her role.

Kinda wanna see ZDT after the trailer I saw for it during Silver Linings Playbook (which was awesome by the way, Jennifer Lawrence is too cute).

They actually showed movie footage for ZDT and it looked interesting, I keep hearing it's very tense and edge of your seat.. so i'll prob. catch it.

I need to see Wreck it Ralph and Lincoln still!

SLP def a go if you're into good rom-coms.

sidenote: how was Lawless? I kinda wanted to see it, then once it came out I didn't care for it anymore.

Lawless was awesome top 5 of 2012 for me. LaBeouf's greatest performance, Hardy is top notch as always and Guy Pearce plays the best villain of the year. Also Jason Clarke plays the drunk brother in Lawless - he's suppose to have a great role in ZDT

Finally saw Skyfall...Loved it!.. I have only seen like 2 Bond movies ever (Die Another Day & The World is Not Enough) so this was definitely better than those...I gotta get around to watching some others...I loved how they didn't introduce Javier Bardem until like an hour into it. Him walking slow towards Bond was sick:hat Itwas way better then I thought it was going to be

Watch Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace ASAP. Those are the only other 2 you should have ever seen.

Yeah I'll probably just buy them on Blu soon..

OK since I bought the Dark Knight Steelbook I have a copy of the Dark Knight on Blu Ray I have no use for..I'll send it to someone who is a regular in this thread kind of like a did last year with the Die Hard movie. First person to guess a number 1-15 will get it

One of the best parts of Oscar season is The Hollywood Reporter's roundtable series. For those unfamiliar - they get the top actors, actresses, directors, etc - and get all sit around and talk for an hr about all different things.

A few weeks ago they did the Actors round table with - Damon, Foxx, Washington, Hawkes, Arkin

Today they released the directors edition whch features - Ang Lee, Gus Van Sant, Quentin Tarantino, Ben Affleck, David O. Russell and Tom Hooper - http://wp.me/p2CCWq-2oc
