From California..
NY was garbage IMO. Smelled horrible, everyones in a rush to get somewhere and don't give a crap about other people, most food places in town are dirty / old, driving a car is hopeless although we did take the train instead.
Idk maybe chalk it up to me being a country boy, but I just didn't get the hype in it. The huge department stores maybe?
When I go to LA I can feel the inspiration and success seeping from its pores, but NY just felt overrated to me.
I know people that are more of the countryside type probably wouldn't prefer to live in NYC.
I NEVER drive in NYC because the transit system there is perfect for getting around, but when I do drive there, it's not THAT bad. You just have to know alternative routes if there's traffic forming (there's more than one way to get to a destination).
I can't agree with you in terms of not feeling inspiration, let alone "success" in NYC as opposed to LA. New Yorkers are generally known to be about their grind.
