Remember Paul the Psychic Octopus who accurately predicted the winners of all of Germany's World Cup matches and who received death threats from opposing fans, including Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad? Sadly, the psychic cephalopod passed away last night in his aquarium at the Oberhausen Sea Life Centre.
The cause of death is yet to be determined, but at three years old, it could simply be old age. Octopuses are not particularly long-lived animals.
Paul is to be cremated and his ashes will be placed in an urn that will be the centerpiece of a shrine dedicated to his amazing abilities. In the meantime, the Sea Life Centre is already raising another octopus in the hopes that they can replicate Paul's uncanny abilities.
R.I.P. Paul. It's not every day that an animal oddity garners the world's attention!
