"Within the game cartridge you will see a bunch of small metal tabs. These tabs, when inserted into the console or handheld, need to be in full contact with corresponding tabs attached to the console/handheld cartridge slot.

If dust or other small particulate get into the cartridge, they can hold the two tabs apart and keep them from being in contact, therefore preventing communication between the console and cartridge. Blowing into the cartridge removes these particulate and allows for full contact.

It's also worth noting that often it wasn't an issue of dust, but simply that the cartridge had been inserted at a weird angle; in these cases, while blowing did nothing, simply removing it and replacing it again (at the correct angle) was enough to fix the problem."

I wish that I still had my 49'ers starter jacket. I probably could still rock that today haha, I was swimming in it as a teen
