With the PS4 now over 2 months old and a successful launch now behind it, it’s important for Playstation gamers to look onward as we get this new generation of console gaming underway.

Having said that, let’s have a look at the top 10 games that PS4 gamers will be getting their hands on this year!

10: Dragon Age: Inquisition

Inquisition is Bioware’s latest entry in the Dragon Age series and is set for a Q3 2014 release.  A lot is riding on this entry in the series as Bioware looks to leave behind the backlash they received from DA2. With the fusing of certain elements from DA: O and DA2, the team at Bioware is counting on previous consumer feedback and the new Frostbite 3.0 engine to carry this entry to a new level of success. The combat takes more of a tactical approach with a keen focus on positioning, cohesive party play and swift thinking rather than just a finger tap repetitive approach. Customization promises to be a main priority along with larger environments for exploration purposes. Set for a cross generation approach with a release on Sony’s PS3 and a more polished version for PS4, DA Inquisition is one game that Playstation gamers should keep an eye on later this year.

9: Deep Down

Capcom surprised the world in February 2013 when they announced this exclusive at the New York PS4 announcement event. The reveal trailer showcases a very medieval setting with a fire breathing dragon and armoured warrior. Although the initial trailer was shown in CG, Deep Down utilizes Capcom’s next generation engine “Panta Rhei” which promises a plethora of graphical improvements over their previous MT Framework engine of last gen. With a story setting of New York 2094 Capcom is hard at work on this multiplayer only experience. An extensive game play demo was showcased at TGS 2013, which revealed the 3[sup]rd[/sup] person perspective view in this new dungeon crawler. Something else to note is the inclusion of a casual mode for this online multiplayer game. With such comparisons being made to the Dark Soul’s franchise, a casual mode is a very smart aspect to add considering how the Soul’s franchise is held back from a sales standpoint due to difficulty. Deep down is set for a release later in the 2014 calendar year and promises to be a gem for hardcore and casual PS4 players alike.

8: The Elder Scrolls Online

Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls series is one of the most popular franchises is the industry of video games. The 2011 groundbreaking Skyrim opened the floodgates and really expanded the fan base for the Elder Scrolls series. With TESO, Bethesda brings its signature franchise to the MMO market in hopes of matching the previous entry’s success. Set in the continent of Tamriel and indirectly connected to prior games in the series. TESO is set before the events in Skyrim and around 800 years before Morrowind and Oblivion. The main antagonist appears to be a Daedric Prince named Molag Bal who attempts to bring all of Tamriel under his control. This is the first big blockbuster from Bethesda on a Sony platform since Skyrim released and they have a lot to prove to Playstation fans around the world after the bug riddled and disastrous treatment of the 2011 PS3 version. Sony has taken all the right precautions from a development and architecture standpoint in the PS4 so now the ball rests in Bethesda’s court. Hopefully things develop a lot smoother this time around. The Elder Scrolls Online launches in June 2014 on PS4 with a monthly subscription of $14.99.

7: Metal Gear Solid V:  The Phantom Pain

Metal Gear Solid is one of the most treasured and talked about video games franchises in the history of this industry. Spanning different generations, platforms and iconic characters, MGS is the type of series that has many twists and turns along its 16-year and counting Playstation history. Solid Snake makes his eagerly awaited return to Playstation in 2014 and Konami/Kojima Productions are taking a different turn with this release by splitting it in two. A staggered release by way of offering a side tale named “Ground Zeroes” which stands as a prologue to The Phantom Pain and launches first in March 2014. Phantom Pain however will continue after the events in Peace Walker and promises a fresh take with vocal powerhouse KieferSutherland voicing the role of Snake. Although another cross generation title coming to both PS3/PS4, MGS V: The Phantom Pain is one of the most anticipated Playstation games slated for 2014.

6: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

When the Witcher 3 was announced as coming to PS4 earlier this year the hype from console gamers around the globe elevated very quickly. CD Projekt finally makes its Playstation debut with its latest entry in the award winning and critically acclaimed series “The Witcher”. Featuring the new REDengine 3, this promises incredible graphical detail and specifically created for open world environments for nonlinear role playing games. The Witcher 3 showcases over 100 hours of game play and will conclude the series' protagonist Geralt’s story from previous games in the series. Although this is the first time that Playstation fans get to experience the Witcher storyline, CD Projekt has developed this iteration with new content and story focus that is not directly affected by previous entries in the series. So gamers who haven’t played the earlier games can easily jump in the world of Geralt and explore the hunt! With refined tactical combat and a huge focus on moral choices and the consequences of those choices this open world RPG is looking to take up a lot of play time for PS4 fans later this year.

5: The Order: 1886

This PS4 exclusive was announced at E3 2013 during Sony’s press conference and is developed by Ready at Dawn and Sony Santa Monica. Both of these studios previously have worked on the God of war franchise with SSM handling the home console iterations while Ready at Dawn is responsible for the PSP versions. During the games announcement a gorgeous trailer was revealed and although no game play footage was shown it’s pretty obvious that SSM and Ready at Dawn mean business with this blockbuster. The plot is surrounding an order of knights who protect the world from a monster breed of both human and animal in a sort of civil war conflict that last centuries. By the year 1886 the struggle still rages on but a new area of war emerges in the form of social conflict with lesser classes and nobles. The game features four main protagonists from the same squad of Knights during this time period of an alternate history. Even with the lack of shown game play on this title the Order 1886 is a triple A experience that should prove to be one of the most exciting games of the year. Game mechanics wise The Order allows the player to experience a 3[sup]rd[/sup] person perspective with shooting mechanics and was heavily influenced by Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. The potential is there and this could very well be a new break out hit for Sony.

4: Infamous: Second Son

Arguably the biggest release for Sony’s PS4 in the first half of 2014 is Infamous:Second Son. Developed at Sucker Punch Productions this open world action adventure takes a new turn for the series as new protagonist Delsin Rowe takes center stage. The 3[sup]rd[/sup] main entry in the Infamous series takes place seven years after the good ending of Infamous 2 where players concluded previous protagonist Cole MacGrath’s story arc. The new setting is based in Seattle,Washington where Rowe, a 24-year-old graffiti artist comes in contact with a Conduit who awakens his hidden powers. Game play promises new and improved powers and a new aiming system with a constant reticle onscreen to aim and fire anytime without holding the previous L1 mapped button. Infamous SS was also announced at the February 2013 event and has been heavily promoted as part of Sony’s PS4 launch period ever since. With strong marketing and well-paced preorders, this graphical beast is looking like a champ for Sony in the front lines of the ongoing console wars. With a worldwide release date of March 21[sup]st[/sup], 2014, Delsin Rowe’s new adventure is fast approaching.

3: Destiny

Entering the top 3 is Destiny, the latest project developed by Bungie and published by Activision. The marketing thus far for Destiny has been stellar ever since it’s reveal in the February 2013 event in New York. With the slogan “From the creators of Halo and the company that brought you Call of Duty” how could you go wrong?  Prior to the games reveal, it was heavily rumoured to be exclusive to X1/X360 much like Titanfall is now. However, the world was stunned when Sony announced its partnership with Bungie and Activision to not only have launch date parity with other platforms but also have a long-term exclusive content partnership and beta as well.  Playstation fans around the world are finally going to experience a Bungie masterpiece after all these years. Destiny is a first person shooter set in a post-apocalyptic world 700 years in the future. You play the role of the “Guardians” who are split into three different races and are the protectors of Earth’s last city. With Bungie’s experience in large-scale designs and worlds, Destiny is definitely in the running for top PS4 game when it launches on September 9[sup]th[/sup], 2014.

2: Watch Dogs

WatchDogs was originally scheduled to release in November 2013 but was delayed to spring 2014 by Ubisoft. This delay made headlines late last year as a lot of gamers had eagerly anticipated the release of this title. After numerous E3 awards along with a heavily marketed PS4 bundle, Watch Dogs was the game to purchase this past holiday season prior to the delay. However, a better game will now be released and more polish is never a bad thing. Now set for Q2 2014 Watch Dogs is an open world adventure game set within a fictionalized version of Chicago, Illinois. You play as Aiden Pearce, a very skilled hacker who can control and destroy information with a click of a button. Alongside of hacking you’ll be tracking and eliminating specific targets, using stealth mechanics to avoid Police and preventing crimes in a very dark and gritty setting that will keep players coming back again and again. Enough time has passed in Los Santos; it’s time to move on to Watch Dogs!

1: Uncharted 4

Well after many months and speculation Naughty Dog has finally announced the next entry in the Uncharted series. Not much is known about the title as only a teaser trailer was shown for the game back on the eve of the PS4 launch in November. However, with recent works of art such as the previous Uncharted games and the Last of Us, it’s clear that Naughty Dog is working hard to bring us another game of the generation. Creative director Amy Hennig is back in the driver’s seat for the writing of the script for ND’s PS4 debut. With Uncharted being Sony’s biggest IP to come out of last gen you have to wonder if ND is feeling the pressure to deliver yet again. The Playstation fan base can’t seem to get enough of Nathan Drake, as he has become an important pillar of iconic video game characters for Sony. The Uncharted franchise is often touted as setting the bar in graphic fidelity in today’s console games. Can the gods at NaughtyDog set the standard one more time?   They face some heavy competition from Microsoft and dare I say it Nintendo with their 2014 line up. Time will tell but considering ND’s history, I believe they are up for the challenge as Uncharted 4 takes the top spot for most anticipated PS4 game in 2014!

Those games look good. Still need to get a ps4. Why would they even mention nintendo as competition for this console? I don't know anyone who even owns a wii-u or cares about anything from nintendo besides their handheld stuff.
