QB THREAD - 2x quarterbacky award winner: Lamar Jackson

The question I have about Stafford is what do y'all expect from him?

Let's say he cuts his ints down 4 or 5 a season. Is he better than Phil Rivers or nah?

Rivers had ripe opportunities to win a SB. His window may have closed. Those SD squads were beyond stacked on both sides of the ball. Some falls on Marty, some on LT, some on Phil.

Rivers had a revival last season...not sure it happens again. especially with the divison loading up on defense.

you gotta win at the end of the day. not necessarily a title...but consistently win games and make some playoff runs. it's a team game and QBs do need help, but the top QBs find a way to put their team in positions to win, consistently.

and the turnovers are part of that. protect the ball.

I will always be amazed as to how those SDs teams didn't At least get to a Super Bowl.
Marty Ball.

I attribute a lot of his '13 success to Whis and Allen. Fair or not.

Give Phil Rivers a dome, and Calvin Johnson, with the way he throws the deep ball, and Phil would out perform Stafford so bad he'd be brought up on bullying charges.

That said, just for entertainment value, I want them to just let Staff throw it silly this year with CJ, Ebron, Tate, and Reggie. I wanna see 6K, with a legit shot at a 2K WR. Int's be damned. :lol

That shot put throwing motion.

We all saw what Phil Rivers looks like when he doesn't have a running game.

2006, rivers first year starting. blame goes to marlon mcree :{ . watch the marty football life doc.

2007 LT hurt (in b4 bench pic) and big phil played on a torn ACL.

2008 got only 1… ONE… offensive play in the 3rd quarter. lost to eventual champion steelers.

2009 bad defense and league worst run game. nate kaeding missed 3 field goals :{

i don't really blame phil, LT, or marty at all

@deadset- bet. those couple hero ball years are done. his favorite receiver is back (for now. hope he can stay healthy), his line is better, his backs are better, his D is better, young allen has been working on technique with gates, & ladarius green the not so darkhorse. the only slight drop off could be from facing the nfc west instead of east.

@champcru- u could attribute a lot of KA's success to phil. *shrugs*

u can't give credit to Whis without giving credit to mccoy, frank reich, and most importantly Coach Joe D'Alessandris, who all stayed. phil will have a lot more input in year 2, reich is running the same O.

o-line.

the same as every non mobile qb without a line

I'm very harsh on Matty Checkdown. Similar to Rivers, he's had strong offensive squads.

big phil had arguably his 2 best seasons statistically without his primary weapons.

2010 (66% league leading 4,710)
cpmpletions to 17 different receivers. vincent jackson missed almost the whole year on suspension, gates, m80, naanee injuries.

2013 (69.5% 4,478)
lost floyd and alexander. number 1 wr was a third round rookie

*puts cape back in closet* :lol

:lol

i can respect that. i've always been a phil guy since that AFC champ game where he came to NE and played on a busted knee while his candy *** RB sat bundled up in a parka on the bench. have loved rivers since that game. it wouldn't surprise me if he had another big year....it'll just be tougher with the AFC west getting stronger defensively and having to play the NFC west as you mentioned. i didn't even realize they had the NFC west this year.

no doubt the afc west got better and the nfc west is tougher.

just feel those couple struggle years were the outlier , not last seasons revival. had to throw down for the most passionate guy in the league.

I know this thread is for QBs and not NFL talk in general.......but I am curious how you feel the AFC West got better.  The Broncos are the Broncos. Chiefs are expected to take a major step back.  The Chargers didnt improve significantly.  And even if the Raiders improve as much as the Chiefs regress (which I dont expect THIS season), where is the improvement?

i think defensively they division got better. not necessarily overall, but as far as Rivers playing in the division, should be a little tougher this year. Raiders big additions were on defense. Broncos added some defensive pieces. Chiefs I don't think got worse defensively, although is Berry out for the year?

only saw highlights. from what i saw, both bridgewater and bortles looked alright tonight. from those that watched the game, how'd they look?

watching the Pats game that i DVR'd from earlier today. Jimmy G in particular:

- moves pretty well. better than i realized he could move.
- makes quick decisions with where to go with the ball. gets rid of it quick. we'll see how quickly he can actually go through progressions. don't think he was forced to do that much here.
- good zip on throws...no question about his arm. impressive touch on a couple deep throws...dropped a couple of balls down perfectly to a receiver on 25+ yard throws.
- purely subjective, but looked like he controlled the huddle and line well. moved players around as needed. two minute offense was nice.

all that said, i realize it's the 3rd and 4th stringers on the ******** that he faced. but really no reason to not be optimistic (that he can be a good QB, not that he can be TB12 of course).
