Question about hard resetting cellphone??!!

Sup nt! I have the samsung epic (android) for sprint and they just did the upgrade to 2.2. It recommends to do a hard reset
After the upgrade. My question is does everything I have get deleted from apps,ringtones,pics,contacts get deleted even if I save to my Sd card?? Thnx for the help!
