Question for all you FORMER sneakerheads

I quit when the Grape V's were a limited release.

Those were my grail and I planned on buying 10 pairs of them. I got ahold of 2 pairs and both had yellow staines on the soles and neting. I said I am donecollecting. I still buy shoes, but not as often and I wouldn't call them a collection. I have about 10 pairs in the rotation.

Maybe I have a different perspective on what "growing up" is, but I'm pushing on 30 and I still dig sneakers as much as when I was 20. I guessits all about motive? I see some dudes in this post talkin bout how they grew out of it cause no one cares what shoes they wear. If that was your mainmotivation for buying/collecting shoes then its no suprise that you've grown out of that fad.

Personally, if my work didn't require business attire I would probably still be buying sneakers on the regular. Its just that when your only opportunity towear sneakers is on the weekends, it makes you think twice about spending $200 on shoes that get worn maybe once a month.

when i realized i could get laid in some suede loafers quicker than i would in some DS spacejams...

2 kids and an impending mortage made me stop buying shoes pretty fast.

oh and the fact that NOTHING is worth buying these days.
I think I've bought 3 pairs of shoes this year. 2 pairs of XX3's and a pair of dunks.
I'm not planning on picking up anything else this year either.
I'm thinking of putting about 30 or so pairs up for sale in the coming months.

-J-

it slowly tapered off for me. JB fell off with all these crazy color schemes they were coming out with.

I came to a realization that I have over 100 pairs of Air Jordans which occupies two closets in my house. Its beyond ridiculous to continue buying these retroswhen I have no more space to store them and I will most likely never wear a good percentage of these shoes.

So its not about if I can afford em its about storing shoes that I know I will never wear. The problem I have is I have zero energy to sell the shoes I do notcare for on ebay due to having to deal with dead beat buyers and the process of packaging and shipping.

I never understood why people call it a game. I'm trying to quit. For the last month if I buy a pair of kicks I sell a curent pair from my collection.Anyone else try this?

About 5 years ago too many people got into it and it got stupid.

JB turned into complete crap and limited releases, etc.

\My collecting always coincided with playing basketball. I don't wear gym shoes as outside shoes...when I was in HS and Jordan was coming up, you had tohave Jordans to play ball inh, not wear around...

So since I've had a couple of reconstructive knee surgeries and a three kids and I only play ball a minimum 4 times a month, there is no need to own 100pair of shoes (when I was at my worst).

***About that 100, I got caught up in having a new pair every game, just like Jordan. I played at a lot of different gyms, so I would try to get away withhaving "new" shoes wherever I showed up.***

QFT. All of a sudden people figured out how to make a quick buck off of it and the bottom fell out.

Sorry for the quick turnaround.

There's several people in their 30's and 40's (JD, Fat Joe, Jay and a host of others) that still collect shoes

I think it's a matter of you being broke or your interests changing or as someone stated before, that your not happy
with what's being produced. But the idea that your a college freshman so you can't collect sneakers cuz your
getting your grown man on is a stretch. I don't play video games anymore but it's not because I'm "grown" (23 btw),
its because I don't have an interest in them. but Im not going to think that someone who is 25 years old and plays
COD4 is immature, thats ridiculous.
If you look at the reasons they were into shoes in the first place. Then you'll see the reason they think that way.It seems as if alot of people in this thread got into sneakers either to stunt while they were in hs or because they thought it was cool.I don't buy as many shoes as I used to because there is so many kids collecting sneakers now that when I do find a old pair of those shoes I loved as a kid. There like $400.Gone are the days when you can search ebay and find those shoes your favorite sports star wore back in the day for a good price.I simply cant afford to spend that much.Glad to see Nike retroing some of the shoes I've always loved.

this is exactly my point. It has much more to do with not being able to afford them or general lack ofinterest due to shoddy retroes than it does with actual maturity. Collecting sneakers doesn't make you immature, collecting them when you can necessarilyafford to does.

Fourth year in college and I get closer and closer to quitting every day...Just not worth the time or the money any more (I sound like I have a major problem

)

There were many different factors. Mostly having bills to pay and not really having any "throw away" money to spend on kicks. I've got schoolloans and other things that are top priority now. I also got to a point where I just looked around my room and wondered "Damn how much money have I spenton this over the years". I still like sneakers and everything but I'm just way more picky about what I choose to pickup.

Are you saying this because of their level of income or because you don't respect their collections?

i only collected for prolly 6 months, just now figuring out that i don't need to be messing around with all these kicks.
plus, i really wanna save up money to move, so spending money on kicks isn't worth it.
i'll keep a few pair of course, but gettin rid of most of em as we speak.

Thats definitely the reason with SOME people..... But your not gonna get hardly anyone on here to agree with you on that.Thats just lifethough.... Its like the idiots that drive around in $1500 souped up '95 honda civics talking about they like "fast" cars then see a $120,000 M6 and they say "nah Im not feelin that, thats not they style"

Hes DEFINITELY saying that because of their level of income

I stopped working at Finishline and needed more dresswear for work. Seeing how I only get to wear gymshoes on the weekends or at night if I hoop, it justwasn't good to buy shoes that were sitting around. I only hoop in my jordans after I have worn them for a significant time. I got the 6/17 countdown packas a gift to myself and still haven't worn them. It's wasteful. But when my guy starts back at finishline I might buy a pair or two on discount.

Just because I have to dress up to work and me in management don't make a good look wearing snakers.
So I just stopped plus I got some kicks I have't tried on more or less rock them so I just stopped. Looking forward to next month though..will be coppingthat pack for sure.

i'm old, 22. grew out the shoe interest by 18. started collecting in 2001-and ended in early 2005. just happy that i have the majority of the quality airjordan retro's with the "NIKE" stamped on them. collecting shoes is for 12-18 year olds, the typical shoe collectors are showoffs. as soon as ientered college my shoe purchases dropped, from 3-4 pairs a month in high school to 2-3 pairs a year in college.

i have better and useful things to spend my money on.
