I think Tevin and Usher both got caught in the new R&B/Hip Hop wave, and were pushed onto material that wasn’t age-appropriate. Usher thrived in that lane, because he wanted to be Bobby Brown/MJ, an all-around entertainer. Tevin was more of a ‘sanga’, a vocalist, a male Whitney Houston. He didn’t have solid, consistent mentorship and guidance. It started with Quincy, then Prince, and MJ was trying to pull him over to his new label.
I really wished that they would have used the version that was on the soundtrack CD/cassette for the music video, but I guess they would not have been able to use the whole carnival theme with the beat of the original. LOL
