"On the afternoon of June 30, 1995, Hyman died by suicide by overdosing on pentobarbital and secobarbital in the bedroom of her New York City apartment at 211 West 56th Street. She was found unconscious at 2:00 p.m. (EDT), hours before she was scheduled to perform at the Apollo Theater, and died three hours later at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital.[5] Her suicide note read in part:
