Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

There is plenty of music that is very popular (in many genres), or even nearly universally thought of as great, that I find no connection with or am genuinely repulsed by. But I just move on. Not sure why people that dislike Kendrick need to write a dissertation about how they dislike Kendrick or base their personality off it. It really is ok to just not listen and move on.

Nah, aint no movin on.

Aint nobody else exempt from getting hated on in these internet streets. Why he get a pass?

Everybody out here aint on dude like that.

Yall so invested in him that your not willing to understand that.

Nah it’s cool to not like anyone. Every rapper gets hated on. But some of yall sound really hurt and we all know why. Cause he took your favorite soft served rapper exposed him then got everyone to dance on his body.

This energy wasn’t here before the beef. But that’s ok too. It’s ok to hate on him but it’s also ok to call out y’all’s sensitive feelings over it.

I used to get in heated debates over music that EYE preferred compared to someone else’s preferences.

then I just had to fully embrace the fact that:

1.) while fun/entertaining at times….it was a complete waste of time. Rarely (if ever) does anyone walk away with their opinion changed

&

2.) this shxt is all subjective…there are artists I wouldnt give the time of day because I dont feel em, but that same artist can be someone’s GOAT and I gotta just respect the fact we hearing two different things.

Unlike with sports, we can at least use stats/wins to help support our arguments where as with music, the only scale we have stat wise is sales and we all know that doesnt equate to quality. So with differences in opinions in music I keep it reeeeeeal surface level.

Recently I was adding songs to my library. Wondering what songs I was missing, I looked up greatest hip hop songs of all time. Came across a Rolling Stone list(booo) of top 100. Children’s Story was in the 70s. I know these list be bs, especially Rolling Stones, but cmon on. I don’t know anyone that doesn’t know the words to that song lol. Should’ve been top 10 top 20 if you ask me.

You guys have any guilty pleasure songs? Like, you know you’d be taking chance bumping it around anyone but it’s your jam lol.

This Silkk the Shocker song. Look, the hook got me lol. 9th grade I was pretty much going through this. Yeah, I do know most of Silkks bars lol

I was in 6th grade when All Eyez On Me dropped. My mom loved what’s ya phone number. Young me was intrigued by the how that song ended of course, lol. But it wasn’t til I saw this 2pac interview and he was explaining how he loves women like Prince, that I took a real listen to the song. The song samples The TIme song “777-9311” whom I always associated with Prince.
