Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Crazy how these things play out sometimes. We all know...or got that unc/auntie who been using drugs, smoking fugs and drinking they’re entire lives and outlive everybody.

Far too common we see this in music. He was just shy of the “27 club”. That “sex, drugs and rock and roll” life can take a toll.

Health is wealth. Them substances a beast smh. Heard he was going through it. Depression too real. Really sucks for Mac Miller. Remembered he was on TBC like a year ago and he seemed to be getting it together.

Agree w/everything you said. The Ariana / Pete Davidson thing probably was really tough.

I feel like what you mentioned, the "Sex, drugs, and rock and roll" life which has always been around, has made a huge mark on my Hip-Hop generation.

Hip-Hop is the new rock and roll, and these young guys obsession w/nostaliga and the idealized rock and roll image, has guys diving into drug use to recreate the hip-hop version of the rock and roll aesthetic and they get hooked in the process.

That's not to say that they aren't going through things, because I'm sure they are, but the image is a part of it for sure.

I feel it's a personality thing, people closer to the situation might have a better grasp on what he was going through mentally, but only so much anyone can do for it. Sometimes the only thing you can do is tough it out and that's not even enough.

Outside help should always been in consideration, but it's no guarantee that it's the right kind of treatment.

I know it’s a bit off topic, but this is why I don’t understand the current trend of “addict rap”. When did becoming the user become cool? People really struggle with substance abuse, but somehow it’s become a trendy theme in the genre.

On a related note, first time hearing Mac was around the time of Kool Aid and Frozen Pizza. Then I heard Senior Skip Day and eventually Best Day Ever and I was convinced. He had a cool alternative vibe I liked especially being only 2 years younger than him, I felt I could related. After Blue Slide Park I wasn’t really feeling his content, but I know he still had a strong following. Sad man.

Whenever **** is associated with having money, its seen as being cool. Lean and **** is expensive so there you go. Your average broke ***** out here isnt taking lean like people want you to believe. And ****** been taking pills.

I personally dont care about that kind of rap being a thing but some **** is overboard. Like that lil pump ***** having a song called drug addict. I'll never listen to that dude again.

Let’s not do THIS man (and I knew it was coming). Neither is really “cool”. Drug use has claimed the lives and careers of many over the years. From blues to R&B, to rap, reggae, pop, rock etc. Some of our greatest musicians across many genres were stone cold addicts and some perished from it. Even the greatest couldn’t escape the grasp of substance abuse. And they made great music on and about it.

In an ideal world....these creatives wouldn’t lean on drugs for inspiration or fall on it to cope. But the reality is that....they do.

In the late 90's and 00's the hardcore drug thing was kinda underground with 3-6, Em talked about pills a lot but it didn't really become this "cool" trend til Gucci, Wayne, then Future and now it's just full blown junkie fest. All these new mumble recycled _'s look like strung out fiends.

So how does that 750 break down into four ounces/1 serving?

Four ounces is what they mean when they say “pour up a fo”, right? Lol

Would you compare substance abuse to excessive drinking or alcoholism? Maybe even excessive weed smoking?

 You cant just make that **** yourself

I mean you could I guess if you crushed some opanas or roxy into some cough syrup but why would you do that

There's 4 4s in a pint. You don't have to buy a whole pint, folks would pour up in a baby bottle because it has the measurements on it so you break it down into 4s and then people pour from that.

Wayne was drinking 4s cuz he was on it and had built tolerance. Average person drinkin a whole 4 is going night night, for a long time.

I just went and found this for you real quick

kickvicisous kickvicisous

It’s a designer drug man. Expensive habit. Exclusivity + lifestyle appeal. Status symbol. Rich white people used to do coke and ludes in the 80s for the same reasons.

Like Mozzy was saying...***** wouldn’t be f’n with it if it was readily available and cheap. And they drinking bs right now. Whoever got the last reserves of Act sit/sat on a gold mine.

Y’all Texas boys @HOU$TON @D StaXX can speak to this.
