Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

*****s love Martin and in Living Color....dying laughing at Shaneneh....but be tripping on some agenda ****, when it’s convenient to hate .

It’s all noise. For what it’s worth...Black Americans have always been the most progressive when it comes to gay people. *****s get a bad rap for it. But it’s some gay cousins at every family that’s been accepted or a Dy-k that’s loved by everybody in the hood, for just being them (word to Grimey). Or Black women having gay best friends forever

It’s just complicated because of the history of emasculating black men via slavery, laws, separation, prison etc.......brought on hyper masculinity.....and now we are at a stage where we are all trying to figure it out.

but is it Martin's idea to wear a dress, or are people telling him to wear a dress to be funny?

Because I don't remember all these white comedians needing to wear dresses as some sort of initiation to fame. Not only is it emasculating men it's portraying black women in stereotypically and in a negative light.

Martin had come up with the sheneneh character pre the show. And yes....he based it off a stereotypical ghetto girl. Sheneneh’s etc exists. It’s comedy.

And yes. White actors/comedians wore dresses too. It’s acting. We of course, are rightfully heightened to it as black people...based on the history. But strictly speaking from an art standpoint...it ain’t only black comedians.

One, Kurt Russell isn't a comedian and neither is Tom Hanks

Next, my question wasn't if white comedians have done it, it's the fact that nearly every popular black comedian seems to do it once they get to a level of fame.

None of those people besides Robin Williams can be seen at that level.

Take Kare was fire tho. Quality wasn’t really good but thug and Wayne sounded good on a track together. The 1 song from them > future and drake lack of chemistry

That’s not the point I’m making :lol. This is all “acting” at the end of the day. These are male actors dressing up as women in various roles. Some started out as comedians...and became actors. Martin’s Role in Big Mama isn’t any different from Robin Williams in Ms. Doubtfire. Him making a comedy show....is still a television production. I’m sure if I wanted to look...I could find more 1:1 comparisons. But that isn’t the point.

I understand where the caution comes from. Again, it’s warranted given this country’s history. But I would like to think Martin was being resourceful and comedic when making Shaneneh. That’s part of the POINT of some of these characters is the actor acting out various parts.

Nobody really remember Kee-lo-lo. But Martin as Shaneneh is a scene stealer...or him as any one of his various other characters.

It depends on the comedian and type of comedy. Martin played A LOT of characters on his show. That was his thing. Same with Jamie Foxx doing Wanda, same with Damon Wayans and David Alan Grier doing Men On Film. Those characters had a direction, it made sense. It fit the format of the show.

Nowadays they just throwing some random sexual confusion on any black show or movie just because.

Thug a real street _ correct? Wayne ain't never seemed like he had a presence in the street. That's probably why he never really dissed Thug publically and now being "friends" with him.
