Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

For all of you that are cool with upcoming artists, or are managing artists (I know there’s a couple in here), please read books and contact lawyers and do as much research as you can before any paperwork is ever brought to you. Try to be well versed on what to expect from these people. And lastly, DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT FOR MULTIPLE ALBUMS when it’s your first contract. If the artist blows up after that first or second album and you signed for 5, you ****ed up.

Especially with streaming and how a lot of these mixtapes and EP's aren't even counted.

It's only a few artist putting out project after project where five albums is quick, Curren$y, Styles... and being on a major, they couldn't do that.

Nicki doesn't even has five full albums after all this time.

Carl Crawford is playing games in the media trying to win media wars.

So the thing with meg is allegedly t.farris wrote out that contract so if he’s saying it’s a bad deal and he wrote it why would you still be doing biz with him ? I think she went to that rocnation brunch around some bosses and felt like she was a boss too.

That _ T Farris going for the trippple cross

He bounced after the Roc **** in August so you know this play prolly been in the works

Jokes aside Carl did take a chance and cash tf out to get her going tho. She had a movement but she wasn't that popping when they scooped her up

That _ Slim Thug said "New artists, if you sign with me just know I'm not spending nowhere near that amount of money on y'all" It's some real **** tho

Joe Budden Pod made a pretty good point

if your a new artist dealing with contracts for the first time, where do you fine the proper representation? How do you gauge who's a good music/entertainment lawyer? how do you know what's standard and what isn't?

The first thing we all said was "Hire a Lawyer" but who's to say that Lawyer is built for that job, or also won't be trying to finesse you.
You hold a gun to their head and tell them if they steal from you or try any funny stuff like owning your publishing they'll be dead.

As for finding a good lawyer , you gotta do your research. Don't rush anything.

Really though, you would think black ppl in the industry would have found a way to fight against that kind of corruption though.

Going back to jazz then rock to the Motown era. You got like 3 older generations that know how it be from white ppl straight up stealing your song like they made it to studios ******* with your money. Even with some black ppl also finessing their own you'd think some former artists would focus on that part of the game.

Looks like Meg won't be releasing any music this Friday. Crawford trying to get her *** in court right now. lol T Farris is the one to blame for all this crap. He played chess with the both of their uneducated butts. Meg can't say anything about him though because she would really be up ****s creek. 300 ENT still waiting in the cut for the right time to pick off what's left.

Will say that this has been good publicity for 1501 though. The situation has me checking out some of their other artist like this chick K'ona Lisa. She has some dope tracks.
