Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Nobody blaming hip hop per se, it’s certain individuals that promote certain **** and not only that, are actually doing the crimes they’re rapping about. You don’t hear dudes like Chance, YBN Cordae, Jack Harlow etc on the receiving ends of these rants, it’s ****** like Lil Durk, Von, Melly, Thugger. Y’all being willfully ignorant lol y’all sound like the ****** talking about Al Pacino didn’t get arrested for playing the role of Scarface, well if Al Pacino was out there catching bodies and selling dope I’m sure he would be under the jail
Makin no sense. Thug, Durk, Von. All street ****** before they rapped.

Notorious B1 allegedly said:

“In 1993 i was signed to a small record label called Dragon Records in Gulfport Mississippi. I had a song that i wrote to Mtume called Juicy Fruit. I wrote the song to the actual record and it was called Big Daddy. Big Daddy was the lead single off the Mississippi Dough Boyz Album that was released in september 1993. It was released on the same day as Snoop Dog’s first album Doggystyle. The dough boyz album was made by two Gulfport rappers Tilidie and myself The Notorious Bigg One. (Notorious B1). Yeah I had the name and song first. I know it might be hard to believe but it is 100% the truth. We was on the radio first and in in the stores first. We sent packages to all the major Labels shopping for distribution. Just image my surprise when people started calling me saying they’ve just seen my video. We was trying to get the truth out back then but after B.i.g’s death i decided to leave it alone out of respect. I’m not fat anymore and a lot has changed but before i leave this b#### I want everybody to know the truth. I was the original Notorious Bigg One. #2Grams”

That’s a separate topic.

And that applies to successful people in general. Look at Miles Bridges.

Bro wtf are you talking about? How are you equating domestic violence to ****** allegedly running whole criminal organizations and murdering 50+ people?

Blaming hip hop for all the crime in the black community is low level critical thinking at best, blatant racism at worse.

Ask yourself this question. Why are all these low income black families living in the same areas in every single big city? Chicago, NYC, LA, Atlanta it doesn’t matter where you go it’s all the same.

These same areas in each city also just so happen to have the worst schools, most liquor stores, poorer quality nutrition choices, little to no job opportunities.

But yes let’s blame the 20 something year old rapper for destroying the black community 😂

The worst part is that it’s a classic racist talking point to belittle hip hop

Drill rap could be possibly contributing to the uptick in violence in hoods? Everybody wanna slide or spin the block nowadays. Neighborhood beefs always been there but seem to be more violent. These kids wanna kill somebody just to say they smoking on so and so.

Or maybe we just old now and everything seems multiplied.

Crime peaked between the 70s and early 90s. It is not “more violent” today.

We are just seeing it more because a lot of **** is recorded and we have many ways of knowing about what’s going on.

Arguing that hip hop is the cause of what’s going on in the streets is and has always been a lazy take.

It’s easy to blame hip hop instead of analyzing the underlying factors because they aren’t in your face the same way hip hop is.

I agree but i don't think that's the message anyone is really trying to Convey.

We know the underlying factors now, We also SHOULD know that the people who caused the underlying factors have no intention of fixing it. At some point we gotta stop that we don't know better **** & really start holding each other accountable.

Hiphop has been a catalyst & promotion for literally every bad trait birthed in the hood, ****** took problems that were birthed out of poverty & government abandonment & made it look like the coolest flyest **** on Earth.

I get it we are all part of hiphop culture & are bias but if you truly look at this **** in totality it has been Gasoline on a Fire that's been burning. But it has a HUGE impact on the Hood especially on the youngins.

there was a time where the majority of NYC hiphop was clowning & talking bad about using pills/coke. You were looked at as a weirdo if you was on that type of time, fast forward a decade & some change & now 16 year olds walkin around wit Perc & lean addictions.... A pig part of that is on hiphop

Like I said, technology and entertainment in general.

In the words of Hov, "Scarface the movie did more than Scarface the rapper to me."

The Godfather is one of my favorite films and countless mafia guys from the 60s, 70s, 80s have said that movie influenced the mafia world heavily when it came out. Same for Scarface in the 80s. Countless 80s dope boys have said their whole hood changed after that movie dropped.

Blaming hip hop specifically is low hanging fruit.

I notice during these conversations...someone always pulls the "rap isn't to blame for all violence"card when that extreme was never being alleged in the first place. Charleston White...nor anyone in here that was discussing the particular subjects surrounding him ever stated "rap is to blame for all violence". How did that become the pivot?

That is the textbook definition of a strawman.

Hip hop is not the cause of crime.

Poverty is and always has been.

No one is saying hip hop is the sole reason for all crimes in black neighborhoods, however, it can act as a contributing factor. Cats dis ops in songs and make threats etc. Cats come check to see if you bout it like you claimed in your music. Hell, we got police going into certain neighborhoods and blasting diss tracks to get Cats amped up and ready to go crash out. Look at Brooklyn drill rap for example. Some of these cats involved come from good homes, but willingly get involved into street ****/rap beefs and end up receiving what comes with that.

I never said it couldn’t. I read this post and I responded.

But once again. People having been retaliating against their opposition for years, cats have been getting backdoored and set up by women for YEARS.

Only thing new is the fact it’s a new generation that records and posts EVERYTHING online. We have nurses, and police officers who can’t even do their jobs without making Tik Toks on the side. Criminals aren’t excluded.

Is it THE cause or A cause

Hip hop is not the cause of crime.

Poverty is and always has been.
