Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

I mean I’m 35, but I wasn’t paying attention to LL honestly. I didn’t realize how sexual “doing it doing it and doing it well” was as a kid
Lmfao 😂
See I was raised in the projects. Knew all Kilo songs word for word. Young parents man, basically kids. I knew Too Short songs I shouldn’t have known, lol. Me and the homie use to rap 8ball and MJG “Pimps” out loud in 4th grade lol. Young ladies around me were fast. I lost my v card in 7th grade. Came real close in 5th lol……….smmfh
But yeah I knew all about Doin it lmfao

It’s kinda funny, cuz by like ‘98…LL was still seen as LL, the Rapper who made hits and considered one of the best in the game, on all levels. Even the “street” level.

But by like 2003, he was looked at as “corny” in an almost Will Smith type of way.

LL had corny moments throughout his career

And was received as a chick rapper off and on, but he would come back with harder records to balance it out.

And I think he was just changing with the times and the R&B stuff like that Boyz 2 Men song worked, even though I hated it.

34 and same situation here. I definitely was ignorant to LL’s impact and how big he was a star. I was thinking bout LL when the Ice Cube discussion was happening yesterday. When I was 10 years old LL was a rapper but more of an actor to me. In my opinion you dont really understand and gauge musicians and their impacts in real time till you’re basically in High School and havin them lunch table debates. Yall gotta remember for folks our age at 10 years old we are seeing this man in Halloween H20, Deep Blue Sea, In Too Deep, Any Given Sunday, Charlies Angels, on top of having his own TV Show in The House during that same time period. Musicially during that time period he wasnt doing multi platinum numbers so he wasnt as big on the music side for us, but visually he was present thanks to film/tv. I remember seeing the Fatty Girl video and thinking “damn why they got his old *** on this?” He just seemed outta place there at that time period. Keith Murray as well. I remember him popping back up my round freshman year of High School with the J. Lo joints and “Luv U Better” but even then during that time period he was the old dude. Them Songs was decent but I couldn’t gauge what he was in the past at that moment in time. Im pretty sure there at 17-18year olds that only know Luda from FF movies and have little knowledge of how big of an artist he was.

Right. Folks I know 50+ said LL, Rakim, and Kane was their Hip Hop hero’s.

But I get his comparison

Magic33 Magic33 got a love/hate situation with LL.

I never really liked chick rappers and that was a huge part of LL 🤷‍♂️

and you're right every time I liked him, he would do some wack **** I hated.

but hey, that's more than Drake, it's 100% pure hate

Magic33 Magic33 :lol Calling LL a chick rapper is a little stretchy - that didn’t happened until mid/later career. Besides that’s how you stay relevant. Winning the women audience as a male rapper will help your career.
