Texas rap had me in a chokehold when I was in high school. Crazy how as a teen how impressionable you can be. No lie it played a big reason I even moved to Houston videos had me in a trance. I used to download all the videos and music and just watch and listen. Round that time (2005) Houston rap and Chicago rap was both buzzin heavily in the game. Kanye, Common, Twista,Lupe, Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Slim Thug, Flip, Chamillionaire etc. Even my baseball team White Sox play the Astros in 2005 world series. So many things just pointed to the H for me. But out of em all “Sittin Sideways” was the one (Lupe remix as well). I played the hell outta that song/video. Loved Pokey’s verse. I think thats why that video of him that’s circulating hits so hard cuz I spent so much time consuming media with him in it rapping. By no means was I a Big Pokey super fan but he definitely influenced me and help ignite a love for H-Town culture/music. Crazy what music can do for/to you. RIP Big Pokey

Can you put me on some of your favorite Houston/Chicago tapes/albums from that time if you don’t mind? You or anyone else that sees this

That’s a fact. As long as your provide your kids with the attention, environment, and space to be successful, I feel like you should be able to sleep at night. You never stop being a parent, but after a certain point, you’re grown enough to make your own decisions. Ja is a good example.
