Two men enter a North Miami convenience store Thursday and change their plans when they notice there is a police officer shopping inside.
The armed robbers who prey on all-night stores are getting more reckless. Early Thursday three of them hit a 7-Eleven two blocks from the North Miami policestation. They were apparently unfazed by or unaware of the marked police car parked outside the store.
Dressed in black, the three men stormed the store at 590 NE 125th St. at 1:30 a.m., waving handguns, said Lt. Neal Cuevas of the North Miami PoliceDepartment.
One watched the store's door. Another told the cashiers it was a robbery. A third walked the aisles.
That third robber first spotted the uniformed officer in the store and shouted out to his comrades. They all took off.
The would-be thieves escaped with nothing.
The uniformed officer was a Biscayne Park Police officer.
Half an hour earlier, another 7-Eleven store was robbed at 167 NW First St., said a spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Police Department. It was unknown if thetwo robberies were related.
