Sam Cassell Finally Bought out will sign with Celtics/PJ Brown Too

Los Angeles Clippers point guard Sam Cassell is expected to sign buyout papers with the franchise with an hour and he will sign with the Boston Celtics once he clears waivers, according to an NBA source.

Cassell and the Clippers have agreed to buyout terms and is expected to receive some of the money remaining on his $6.1 salary this season.

Once the 38-year old's buyout is official, he has to clear waivers within 48 hours so he can become eligible to sign with another team.

The Celtics appear to be close to adding free agent forward P.J. Brown to their roster.

Brown's agent, Mark Bartelstein, acknowledged it is "possible" that Brown could be a Celtic soon.

The 38-year-old Brown, who has been courted to return to his home state team, the New Orleans Hornets, has been inactive this season.

The Celtics have two roster spots to fill before Friday's playoff eligible deadline. The Celtics hope to land veteran guard Sam Cassell if he is bought out by the Clippers.

Brown, who has 14 years of experience, would bring needed depth in the frontline. The 6-foot-11 forward is known for his rebounding and tough interior defense. He averages 9.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game for his career. He also would brings much-needed playoff experience, with 81 games under his belt with the four franchises he has played for, most recently as a member of the Chicago Bulls.

I'd be pissed if Sam doesn't end up coming here, but PJ Brown probably fills a greater need. If we got both, the east would be a wrap.

The Mavs need him badly, as Terry will spend all his time at SG from here on out, and Barea is terrible as a backup PG... If he wants money, Dallas is theplace to be... Cassell and Kidd could conceivably play minutes on the floor together, couldn't they?

That said, I wouldn't bet against him ending up in Boston.

Yes. GP played PG and Cassell played SG at times during their short stint in Milwaukee.

Sam Cassell clearly stated a couple months back that next year he was hoping to play for Denver to end his career and so he could work under George Karl againand make the transition into head coaching.
