**Seattle Mariners 2024 Season Thread ** | ELIMINATED |

Yeah, but it's not like he was the one critical piece for the team, which IMO doesn't justify giving-up so much.

Eh. Gotta give up something to get something. Something proven at that. Losing one of the big 3 would hurt, but you have 2 left and a bevy of others on the radar in the minor's. And the Mariners are higher on Brad Miller than they are one Franklin so having all this excess is exactly how they bring in top tier guys like Upton.

Damn Jaso was fun to watch, one of the few bright spots with all his clutch moments

and they trade him to the A's of all teams. I think that will be a great pickup for them too.

Havent paid much attention to Morse since he was an M originally but it looks like he can add some power to the lineup if he can remain healthy

and now that leaves us with one only catcher in Jesus right? I wonder how fast Zunino is getting here..or if they plan to bring someone else in during ST

I like the deal. They didn't give up much at all. I liked Jaso too, but long-term, he doesn't fit.

Yessir. Dat confidence in Montero.

Deal is a wash, IMO. Jaso would have been gone after this season, while Morse should have never left in the first place. More power in the lineup, yes, but defensively - in the outfield at least - it looks bad on paper. Especially if Guti is hurt. I hope they can keep both Morales/Morse after this season.

If they didn't sign him, they might as well have folded the team.

Seems like Saunders will give the team somewhere in between what Vargas and Millwood did

Projected rotation: Seattle Mariners

On the heels of agreeing to terms with ace Felix Hernandez on a long-term contract, the Seattle Mariners have added left-hander Joe Saunders on a one-year deal, reports FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal. Saunders essentially replaces Jason Vargas in the M's rotation, which could look as follows to start 2013:
The club also has Jeremy Bonderman in camp on a minor league deal, though the right-hander may not be ready for the start of the season after having Tommy John surgery last spring, and Hector Noesi looks to rebound from a poor 2012. The Mariners have been linked to trade candidate Rick Porcello, too, and also could be among those interested in Houston's Bud Norris.

Seattle has watched throwing sessions by a few veterans this winter, including right-hander Jon Garland earlier this week. The Mariners could also audition prospects Brandon Maurer, James Paxton and Danny Hultzen this spring.

Signed Garland today for a minor league invite. I like how they're exploring every possible options. Garland hasn't pitched since 2011, but he's a veteran arm who has had a few great seasons under his belt.

I have faith in our young bats, but I just hope Zunino isn't rushed. Spring training in a couple of days too, I can't wait!

I don't know...I think Zunino is a different breed. I don't see him getting flustered or being negatively impacted by getting up to the club too quickly. We'll see.

I can't wait until he's up though. He's going to be that spark plug/rally starter that every ball club wants, in my opinion.

I feel like Zunino will be coming up soon, given how fast he's been promoted through the minors and the depth at catcher

I love Zunino, but what I meant was that I'd want us to call him up solely because he's ready and not because we need bats. Maybe I'm just a bit paranoid with the whole Jeff Clement experience a couple of seasons ago...

I hear ya, I agree and hope they dont feel pressure to put call him up before he's ready either. Based on the moves they made it almost feels like they expect him to be called up soon but we'll see how things play out with Jesus and whoever they find to play backup at catcher.

I see them approaching this no different than they did with Ack, at least I think they will

Good thing is he's showing more in a shorter amount of time than Ack did during his stint in the minors

I live in the Fresno area (CA) so I'm going to have to check Zunino out in person when the Rainiers come down to play the Grizzlies.

Not a bad idea. My Mom and stepdad are going to spring training again this year and I'm kind of jealous. I feel like this would be the year to go with everything that's going on. Lots of competition that's going to go on down there this year.

I probably should make the trip to Tacoma this year though, just to say I saw all these dudes before they hit it big. :lol
