:lol If you've got nothing, come with heavy sarcasm. I get it.

I hope this team has a long term plan in place to replace Zunino. I couldn't care less about his pitch framing when he ends up with negative WAR because he hits a buck fifty

24 years old been in the show for less than 2 years and you gave up on the kid.

Every single person that has literally any meaning to baseball thinks he is gonna be great. But because he is struggling when literally given 0 chance chance to succeed you think he is worthless.

Like do you understand the responsibilities of a catcher and why it might be harder for them to work on their hitting? How many great hitting catchers in the league can you name?

I understand that, and understand he was rushed. But this is beyond poor and you have to admit that. If he were hitting .210 we'd be singing his praises but he's not even anywhere near that. And .210 stinks.

I'm not asking for Mauer or Buster Posey but this is ridiculous. Either a k or grounds into a double play everytime.

So therfore let's dump the kid and play Sucre and Olivo?

:lol Do you really want me to answer that?

I'm not going to go that extreme but there is clearly a problem. This can't be a long-term solution at catcher, a guy that might hit .180 at best

180 at best? That's what his career high will be.
So for real what should the mariners do

Not sure but the team is built to win now. Cruz, Seager, Cano, this team is not built to wait 5 years for Zunino to hit .240. If this guy is seriously stuck under Mendoza, then we need a replacement plan. You're essentially trading superb behind the plate defense for abysmal, horrendous offense.

so you think the mariners should either
A) use a 1st round pick to draft Catcher, because Zunino sucks forever
B) give up a prospect for a .240 hitting catcher

C.) Maybe send Mike to AAA for a week or 2 but that really won't help him hit ML pitching, so basically live with it until you don't have to anymore.

I'm failing to see the convincing argument to letting this guy continue to either k every at-bat or GIDP. Are we accepting players hitting .160 full-time now? If so, why isn't Brendan Ryan still at shortstop? Are you trying to see the Mariners become a perennial playoff contender, or gimp themselves into praying for a wildcard? Because all of the contenders are sporting catchers like Salvador Perez, Brian McCann, Russell Martin, Buster Posey, hell Caleb Joseph has stepped in for Matt Wieters in Baltimore and is tearing the cover off the baseball. Stephen Vogt is playing great baseball for Oakland. I don't understand why you're backing dude so much. Is he your cousin? :lol

backing up? nah im not giving up on him.

Mariners drafted another Catcher a while ago and had the same mindset as you do and dumped him.
His name is Jason Varitek

Zunino is so good y'all, I refuse to let the M's incompetent handling of hitters change my mind on him. He was rushed for his catching, but he has it in him to be a beast with the bat.

Dude was a Golden Spike winner with Florida, players who have won it recently before him?: Bryce Harper, Buster Posey, and a catcher long before them named Jason Varitek (as mentioned earlier). Felix lost the Cy Young because people credited some of his stats to Nino's elite framing, even young guys like Taijuan credit Nino for helping their game.

Dude is a bonafide leader despite being young and hitting well below Mendoza line. You can even tell guys in the clubhouse are pulling for him, so I'm not giving up on him.

Be careful with that comparison. Not only did Varitek never play an inning for the M's at the MLB level, his worst season came at 37 years old hitting .209. If Zunino was hitting .209 we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Also, the Mariners stuck with another former top 3 overall pick at catcher, a stud out of USC. His name was Jeff Clement. He hit .227 his final year as an M and the team traded him away. Shades of Varitek! Well Jeff is now out of baseball.

A full year of batting like this and everything you said means nothing. Mike Zunino is hitting .121 with a negative WAR right now.

Fins, but you're talking about replacing Zunino long term. The kid played double-A and triple-A for less than a year COMBINED. The M's botched how they handled him and assumed hiding him 8th or 9th will work things out with him.

I'm saying at the very least have him go back down to triple-A for a couple of months until he gets things straight. If he hits .350-400 in triple-A and comes back up to continue to hit below Mendoza line then it's time to move on.

But check out the M's handling of him:
Drafted 2012 and played single-A to close out the year. Dude started out at double-A Jackson in 2013, then moved to triple-A after like 2-3 months and eventually ended up in Seattle September of 2013. Really? Dude is a catcher and the FO pushed him up like he had Kris Bryant's bat; Bryant who was in double-A and triple-A for a whole freakin year!

Well we agree he should be demoted to AAA. I can live with Sucre, if we know he's gonna hit .150 because he's not a top pick and because there's no hype.

Zunino has regressed and it's gotta be mental because you don't hit 20 HR's in your first big league season without skill. But now it's just sad.

If you can live with Sucre you might as well sit back and let Zunino ride if the only difference is you feel less slighted because there isnt any hype behind one of them

I get the frustration, he's been beyond terrible, his confidence is completely shot...A trip to Tacoma sounds close to becoming a necessary route and try to get some things sorted and get his confidence back up.

But there's literally no other better alternative right now to give up on him (in your mind) right now. Just because you KNOW Sucre will suck and you can live with that doesn't change anything from an actual productive standpoint for the team.

Team needs to do their due diligence to get this kid back on track though before it becomes a point of no return
