Serious question, how are you 'okay' with this?

A 25-year-old mother of four gets 10 years in prison for $31 in marijuana sales? You've got to be kidding us.

It's no secret that our judicial system is a joke. Especially when you have people like Johannes Mehserledoing less time for killing an unarmed man than Patricia Marilyn Spottedcrow, who is doing ten years for $31 in marijuana sales.

Did you read that?

A cop kills an unarmed man on video tape and gets less than two years.

A mother of four sells $31 in weed and gets ten years.

And our judicial system is balanced right?

Here's how it all went down:

Back in December of 2009, Spottedcrow and her 50-year-old mother sold a dime back of weed to a police informant at her mother's home in Oklahoma for $11. Spottedcrow's mother Delita Starr asked her 9-year-old grandson -- Spottedcrow's son -- for some dollar bills to make change.

Two weeks later, the same informant purchased $20 worth of marijuana from Spottedcrow at the same house. Because Spottedcrow's four children were all present, she was hit with an additional charge for possession of a dangerous substance in the presence of a minor.

Both Spottedcrow and Starr were arrested and offered plea deals of two years in prison. But because neither had ever been convicted of a crime and with such a minimal amount of marijuana, they decided to roll the dice and enter a guilty plea before a judge with no prior sentencing agreement.

Starr was hit with a 30-year suspended sentence with no incarceration, but five years of drug and alcohol assessments. Meanwhile, Spottedcrow was sentenced to 10 years for distribution and two years for possession. Both sentences are to run concurrently and Spottedcrow will not be up for parole until 2014.

$31 in marijuana equals ten years in prison? That's just ridiculous. How in the world can you take a woman away from her husband and children for something so small? People get less time for killing another individual.

Judge Susie Pritchett, who has since retired, said that she was "lenient" by not putting the grandmother in prison and that selling marijuana was "a way of life" for Spottedcrow. Maybe we're confused, $31 is not a way of life for any individual. Spottedcrow worked at a nursing home and is far from being a menace to society. But Pritchett sees the situation differently.

"This was a drug sale. When I look at someone in front of me, I'm thinking, 'What is it going to take to rehabilitate this person?' We look at their attitude and other factors," she said. But instead of thinking about that, she should have considered that Spottedcrow's four children -- ages 9, 4, 3 and 1 -- will be without a mother for the most important part of their young lives. Should she be in trouble? Sure. Ten years? Absolutely not. Probation sounds about right. Maybe 6 months, tops. But not a decade.

I'm not saying I believe Americans are okay with this, but when is someone going to stand up?

Last week a dude was being charged with 20 years of prison for making a youtube video of him 'pretending' to sing a sexual song infront of kids. Note that it didnt actually happen.

Seems like standing up for what is right and demanding change is a growing world wide trend... think it will happen in the U.S???

voting obviously won't fix it because the judicial system is the one thing that will do what it wants to who it wants regardless of what the people choose (supreme court anyone?)

Uneven numbers happen, when I used to serve if people came through a few dollars short I'd still make the sale. People are gonna come in and say "she broke the law, though". If everyone had that attitude we'd be in the damn Jim Crow era still. I hate living here.
