Share your volunteer abroad experiences

As I am currently in my gap year before I enter Physical Therapy school, I am thinking of signing up for a volunteer abroad program. My reason would be to help out of course, but also see a different perspective of life. 

Can some of you share your experiences with volunteering abroad? What did you get out of it and would you do it again? Any tips for a noobie like myself trying to do something like this most cost effectively?

Doing it right now in Nigeria. Glad I came got to learn more about myself and have a better understanding of how the world views America.

My dad is from Nigeria so it gave me a chance to connect with a lot of my distant family members and understand my heritage and culture more.

With all that being said. I been here since January and I will more than likely be home in 5.5 weeks. I'm already hyped. Other countries are cool but God Bless America. My family here is in a way better situation than like 90% of the country and I still feel like its just not the same.

First stop (after getting buns) is Chipotle, Gawd I miss that ****.
