So, my lady and I are planning a trip out to SoCal (LA and SD area) in August. We're going to hit up the SD zoo, any other places we should visit or food spots?

Thanks~

For L.A., it depends on what you want to do, shop or see cool places or what.

I like runyon canyon and griffith park for running/hiking. Nice views.

Food places, lots of people say Roscoe's chicken and waffles, In n Out. I like Lamonica's pizza in Westwood, and Abbots pizza in Santa Monica, by SMC.

3rd street, and Santa Monica is nice.

Lots of cool things to do at Newport Beach, rent bikes, boats, etc.

If you're going to stop by Newport/ Orange county area, let me know. I grew up in the area and know all the spots.

^ Thanks guys. I guess visit nice cool spots, nice views. So, more of a sight seeing kind of feel, but good restaurants are always appreciated.

Thanks again guys, and please keep the suggestions coming.~

Might want to check out the Getty Center, great place to take a girl with that flower garden. Good views there.

I heard the Griffith Observatory is cool, but I've never been there. Signal Hill is a nice spot at night, lots of people go there though.

Restaurant Row in L.A. has a lot of famous spots to eat.

I 2nd the Griffith Observatory, that view is dope.
Ok, for restaurants. Try to make it something you haven't had before, you know, the "only in L.A." spots

So,

#1. I'd say Pinks if you dig hot dogs.  http://www.pinkshollywood.com/

#2.  Something a bit more upscale for desserts and drinks? The Bonaventure Hotel, there's a revolving bar (yes, it's spins son) on the 36th floor. http://www.yelp.com/biz/bona-vista-lounge-los-angeles

#3.  Mario's Peruvian will have the BEST food outside of Peru, and it's relatively cheap. http://www.yelp.com/biz/marios-peruvian-and-seafood-los-angeles

#4. Don't do the walk around Hollywood Blvd.  It's all bums, tourists, and fools in spider man costumes trying to make money by posing for pictures. BUT, you can take a tour to celebrity homes, people usually do that a lot.  http://www.starlinetours.com/

#5.  Downtown L.A. has this event every week called ArtWalk.  People walk around, drink, browse through different exhibits, and all the gourmet food trucks come out. http://www.downtownartwalk.com/

#6. Since you're doing the SD Zoo, how about: http://www.aquariumofpacific.org/

#7. In my opinion, the best burgers in L.A. are: Umami Burger http://umamiburger.com/ or kitchen 24 http://www.kitchen24.info/Home.html

San Diego:

Anything in the Gaslamp District http://www.gaslamp.org/

I got a whole bunch of suggestions, just let me know what you're looking for.

^ THANKS man!

Yeah, I was going to take her to: Birch Aquarium, and Balboa Park when we get to SD. Which aquarium is better: Birch or aquarium of the Pacific?
As for food we both love seafood so any good seafood or sushi places in LA or SD?

I was also going to take her to this Dinner Dance Cruise in LA; has anyone heard or been on that cruise?

And Deezy, I'll Google those places and see what's going on with them.

Thanks again guys, and please keep the suggestions coming

gotchu.
seafood. usually I will go to Redondo Beach Pier. Quality seafood: http://www.qualityseafood.net/about.htm

It's right off the pier and you just pick your fish, crab, mussels, whatever and they cook it to order. Steam it or fry it.

The fresh sea urchin is ridiculously good.  Oh, it's patio seating so you're just sitting on newspaper covered tables. Nothing too fancy.

BUT, if you want fancy:

Gladstones in Malibu http://www.sbe.com/gladstones (great surf and turf)

or Chart House in Malibu or Redondo Beach (2 locations) http://www.chart-house.com/  (probably the prime rib you will ever have)

both of these are beachside spots, averaging around $100 for two.

i suggest aquarium of the pacific over birch aquarium, there's way more things to see.

there's a seafood restaurant in downtown san diego called the oceanaire (theoceanaire.com) pricey, but has a great selection of seafood. you might want to make a reservation, unless you're going non-peak hours.
