STEPHEN CURRY UNLIKELY TO RETURN FOR WARRIORS ON SATURDAY

Updated 2 hrs 8 mins ago
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Stephen Curry did not practice Thursday with the Golden State Warriors and is unlikely to play in Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals at Portland.

Curry did some work on the court but has yet to scrimmage. Coach Steve Kerr said "probably not" when asked about Curry playing Saturday.

Kerr said, "Everything has gone very smoothly. He hasn't had any setbacks."

Defending champion Golden State leads the best-of-seven series against Portland 2-0. The Warriors had Wednesday off from practice after winning Game 2 on Tuesday night at Oracle Arena.

Curry injured his knee April 24 when he slipped on a wet spot just before halftime at Houston in the first round of the playoffs.

There's zero reason to play him in Game 3 after we took the first two at home. As much as he may want to play - plus OKC/Spurs split so potentially that series can go longer.

What an absolute backbreaker loss for Portland. Will be very curious how they come out on Saturday.

We are still in this Harrison topic?

He just never will be the guy we want him to be.. It happens .. He's nothing more than a serviceable starting player nothing more nothing less..

Steph most likely out for game 4

Warriors say Stephen Curry 'doubtful' for Game 4

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Gym bag slung over his shoulder, Stephen Curry walked off the court after practice Sunday and politely declined an interview.

"I would just say he's doubtful for tomorrow, but he's slowly and surely making progress," Warriors coach Steve Kerr said.

Kerr was hardly ruling out Curry from playing Monday in Game 4 against the Portland Trail Blazers in the Western Conference semifinals, a series the Warriors lead 2-1.

Kerr said Curry was expected to go through the pregame shootaround, taking the next step after having participated in the team's light practice and gone through a 3-on-3 session. As is customary when the reigning MVP does a post-practice workout and his playing status is uncertain, the court was closed to the media.

"He looked pretty good following what he did yesterday in terms of movement, and conditioning's going to be an issue, but hopefully he can get more and more work, and we'll see how he comes up tomorrow in terms of getting a night's sleep coming off the workout," Kerr said.

Kerr said Curry had not yet begun campaigning to play. But things could change if the team's medical staff clears him in the morning.

Asked if he would have to monitor his minutes if Curry can play, Kerr said, "We're hoping to have that problem. That'll be good to have to figure that out.
