probably..... Dude's english has improved tenfold since 2002.

Dirk also picked up english pretty quickly.

Yao has worked on his English hard since he got to America, even after he got decent I read somewhere he kept trying to get better. Like he wanted to get to the proficiency of a native speaker. He hasn't gotten there, but it is really good.

Lots of Germans know English, many are pretty good at it. I heard it is the main foreign language taught in schools over there. So he probably could speak some before he came over.

Pretty sure English and german are closely related historically, a german learning english is not nearly the same leap as a chinese dude learning english.
