Kobe's quote on FirstTake is as real as it gets..if you don't respect him, it's because if his off the court court case and his ego. Dude keeps it real though.

"Listen: business is business. I think people get that confused very easily in understanding that players should take substantially leas than their market value in order to win championships."

Kobe OBVIOUSLY deserves every penny he's making....however, when guys like Tim Duncan and Dirk take less than their market value to improve their team roster flexibility, then I just don't know what to tell ya.

Tell me nothing, it's simple.

Kobe-5 Rings

He's not leaving 35+ mill in the table to help.

They can go over the Cap and help.

He will make the best with what's around him

players taking less than their market value is on them. they ain't displaying any more "loyalty" or are any more of a team player than a proven high profile player who wants to get paid. that's some bs thrown down by the ownership to keep the players in check and shame them into asking for less than their value

Not only is it some BS passed down by the owners/employer, but when people here or anywhere cosign it, and expect a player/employee to forgo a raise in salary when they deserve it, so that their team can win. :{ :{

Has anyone in this thread got a raise lately or ever for their hard work, and decided to turn it down so the company could hire more people to make things more efficeient? No

Why should and NBA employee have to do it?
If you think a player is selfish for taking what is offered to him, his market value, at his job, then I can promise you that you are a YES MAN at your job.

I want those kind of guys working for me and boosting my company value.

The All-Star Break is longer now because the players wanted the rest. Not sure how much difference a week off in the middle is gonna make.

If I could change anything it would be start the season in December......
82 games is perfect. Its just basketball.
You don't need all kinds of recovery time. Its not like football.

bron soft as ****. dirk will play what maybe 2-3 more years at most?

these ****** trying to change the entire league to make it easier for themselves, ignoring the fact they won't be around forever and ****** will have to deal with it. They want it easier so come playoffs they can be better? Football should lower its games to 10 then. Baseball to 90. ****** are soft in the game. lebron will never be the goat with his habitual line stepping.

Cuz the football season is almost done by then. Start the season later there can be ball in the summer.
summer is the worst time of the year for sports.....

Pretty sure the NBA had to squeeze in more games to make up for the extended break.

Stop crying

I don't know how a 70 game season would've saved Brook Lopez, Al Horford, D Rose, etc.
Injuries can happen at any time.

Lebron is already the gm. He can be the coach and sit himself out of meaningless games.

Injuries can happen at any time.

And less time in a less condensed frame might curb some of those injuries

It's not gonna stop a freak injury like Paul George, but you don't think it could help wear-and-tear injuries?

I don't think anyone's crying about it, even the players. They can probably feel how it'd help extend some careers.

Pretty sure the NBA had to squeeze in more games to make up for the extended break.

Well that defeats the purpose a little :lol

BG artle touched on exactly how I felt about donald sterling scandal and people criticizing the players. Like they are the ones who are charged with policing racism.

Here's the thing though...less games = each games holding more weight = higher intensity of play. With 82, some guys can mail it in some nights. When you have less, you have less nights you can go half speed. These guys clearly don't understand logistics. By removing games in an effort to save energy and bodies, you are directly aiding in them breaking down because of the adjusted intensity of remaining games. Intensity will have to go from 80-90 to 100+ each game. You'll have less rope to work with in trying to make the playoffs. It's like going to the club, and its packed with females and a few dudes. You can relax and take your time. Now imagine for to the same club and its packed with dudes and a few females...its basic economics. less opportunity makes the available opportunities that much more valuable.

Funny you mention this. Just the other day, my friends and I were talking and they said they were in favor of shortening the season because it would reduce injury and I told them that that actually makes little sense. For plenty of reasons, but mainly because less games would place more value on them, which in turn would make the players essentially go a lot harder each and every game. Higher intensity would result in about the same, if not more injuries.
